Re: The Sims 3

Sue loves Sims 3, but the game itself is full of bugs, with a seemingly endless array of patches to cover them.

I think not the best example of game programming.

Re: Apple fanboy facts

£699.99 - iPad or laptop?

Personally, I think iPhone and laptop for the same outlay is more useful, but the iPad is certaiunly very slick and would look pretty good reading the nespaper on it on the train....

Re: In the News

So if every country is in deficit, who is lending us all the money?

Re: Computer Antics

We now have the first of our two new monitors, and wow! I say first one because when Sue gets home and sees this she'll want one...we went for the Dell 2209WA, which is a native resolution of 1680x1050 and a 22" diagonal. It's the right size for where I work. The viewing angle is excellent, no ...

Re: First Synthetic Organism created

They needed a bacterium shell to do this, so it wasn't creating life from scratch. I think the most chilling aspect of this is that if we could create life, what does that make us and our ability to exist and think? It diminishes us to a cauldron of teeming chemicals and banishes the concept of a so...

Re: Computer Antics

What I do like about computing is that there is always something to learn from every problem that crops up.

The Sims3 updater indicated that the Adobe Flash Player was still in beta for Windows 7. The Adobe website just downloaded it with no problem whatsoever. EA want to get up to speed....

Re: Computer Antics

I suspect they have lost interest in selling film scanners - there will be few new users as everyone will have scanned their negatives by now. Small market = small interest in developing any further?

Re: Computer Antics

Nikon explain that the sofware works fine, but the system does not see the scanner regardless....basically they are saying tough luck but please buy Nikon again. Good deal eh?

The laptop is a long story, to be saved for another day. :-(

Computer Antics

Moving to Windows 7 and 64-bit operating sytems is still in its infancy in some respects (no Adobe Flash Player yet) and in others it's leaving behind some good kit. Our Nikon Coolscan IV, along with all Nikon film scanners, even the £2500 ones, are nor recognised by Windows 7. The Nikon website say...

Re: New monitors

You've picked out a couple of highly recommended monitors there Mike! Spot on....

We may have to settle for one of the following:

Dell 2209WA Black - a very highly thought of 22" model.

HP LP2275w - £100 more expensive but also highly regarded.

These are expensive times...

Re: New monitors

Thanks, I'm starting to get a feel for the market now. The existing monitors are not good enough for the new computers, so we'll have to move on with this ASAP.

Re: New monitors

Crikey, I'm not spening that much!

Budget would be nice at that level, but sadly has to be more like £500 for the two.

Well, add to that the cost of new software and it's a bit more than £69....

By the way, Dragonsfoot e-mail has been infected with a virus, so ignore any e-mails from admin@ and info@ and so on.

Ouch, the price, but....if that's what it takes....

Is that compatible with a PC by the way?
