Re: In the News

BrewDog are making headlines again... Dead animal beer bottles

I genuinely cannot decide if it's genious or a descent into madness, and that's just the bottles. Anyone know what they have to do to the beer to get it that strong? The price suggests quite a lot.

Re: Cool You-Tube Videos

One of my favourite singers, the delightful Hayley Williams, is now apparently doing rap collaborations. I was shocked, but at least it's catchy: B.o.B. - Airplanes feat. Hayley Williams And now... do you like rainbows? You do? Do you like them as much as this guy ? Gets pretty intense from about a ...

Re: In the News

If the base unit maintains signal through brick walls that would be brilliant.

One for the people who watch motorsports partly for the crashes: brown alert for the marshalls. Got some good air there.

Re: In the News

Apparently the extension was from Greenwich St. to West St. in the 1800s, and Battery Park City's an extension using the World Trade Centre's excavation debris as well. Didn't realise people were extending into the sea on that scale as early at that. Possible extreme awesomeness levels: laser-tag co...

Re: Formula 1 2010

Forgot to post about the British GP. Doh. It appears that most of the drama occurred prior to the race, but at least it fired up Red Bull's "number two" driver (Webber!) to storm the field. When I read the background to the wing swap I was a little surprised.

Re: Cool You-Tube Videos

The Super Mario Bros video is technically pretty good - must've been a pain to track the original film and overlay the game footage.

The BBC appear to have a "film network" section which has some weird stuff on it such as this little moral story.

Re: In the News

This is the first in the UK where the robots will sort, label and dispense the drugs. Wow, nothing could possibly go wrong here. That had better be some robust IT and robotics they're using. Why not employ real nurses and porters that would inject money back into the local economy instead of giving...

I was wondering if this was cigars or rum for a second. By process of elimination I'm going with rum... white rum (blanca?).

As a side note, I saw a picture of Tesco value vodka. Such terrors should not exist in this world.

Re: The New Doctor Who

Well, episode 11 has been and gone, and it's into what looks to be a two-parter for the finale.

Liking it very much so far, very little of the doom-and-gloom undertones of the last series about how fragile and generally mortal us humans are.

Chris's 30th - where I was instead...

...which was on Mull and Iona. Don't know how some of these will appear on different monitors as I think mine displays them a little dark. Have done some minor levels correction on a few and straightened a couple of non-level-camera-holding ones out but no other adjustments. Click for full-size imag...

Re: First Synthetic Organism created

I honestly don't know what to make of this, part of me is thinking "awesome!" because of the possible uses in medicine and pollution control, the other is thinking "uh-oh!" because of the ethics issues and the potential for weaponisation (much further down the line). Anyone else ...

I wonder at what point the kid realised it was a really bad idea ("not soon enough", I guess)? Can't believe the people behind him on the escalator never realised what was going on, obviously engrossed in conversation!

Re: In the News

North Korea consider sanctions an act of war!? I thought they were pretty much isolationist anyway. If it was some kind of "false flag" operation by S. Korea or a third party, which is what N. Korea are effectively claiming... bloody hell. Interesting that paintings are often stolen to use...

Re: Formula 1 2010

Looks like the FIA are going to reassess the safety car rules after that. Teams must have to be really on the ball with non-obvious rules like that around. Watched the 90-second summary thing: that Trulli - Chandhok crash could've been nasty! One car riding right up over the other with its rear whee...

The figures for Atkins seem a little surprising (uk fee income to umber of staff), and vice versa for Aedas. And man, Aedas is huge when you factor in the overseas staff!
