The Longest Yard is a comedy (?) with Adam Sandler as a disgraced football star who trashes his girl friends Bentley and is sent to a high security prison. The governor / warden quickly gets the player to gather a team of cons together to give his guards side the opportunity for a quick and easy pre season victory.
This plot is pretty obvious and the story average at best. I would go for a 2.5 Stars is such an item existed.

i saw this on release at the cinema with andy and rowena and think i remember its based on a british film called mean machine about soccer, staring ex-player and general hardman vinny jones [of wimbeldon fc and lock, stock and two-smoking barrels fame]. it is predictable - longest yard that is, i haven't seen the original brit flick - but at the time i enjoyed it as a bit of no brain entertainment with a pretty decent turn by chris rock in it.

I sort of guessed with that one - especially since the team was also called Mean Machine (the same name as the team in Longest Yard!)

Actually, they are both re-makes of a 1974 film starring Burt Reynolds called the Longest Yard in America and Mean Machine over here.
