Strictly Come Dancing

Post by Claire »

I am compelled to write to review the professional dancers (sod the celebrities, although jitterbug, RAF uniform, Gethin, say no more...). i watched the results show on sunday and - i don't know if anyone on here really watches the programme and it's probably more of a girl thing - was AMAZED by the group jive. you may hate the programme, you may not like dancing but watch this and tell me it's not brilliant:

Oh, and make sure you've got sound because the house band and singers do Rebel Yell brilliantly... :D

I really like Strictly Come Dancing, but haven't been watching the current series. There's something about dancing that's just...great, like there's some kind of primal, genetic instinct to do it. Choreographed dancing also seems similar to yoga, in the way it requires (and promotes) strength, flexibility and controlled movement.

The group jive was exhilarating to watch, decent job with the vocals for Rebel Yell too.

Absolutely - you always find time to do what you REALY like and very little will prevent you. Apart from drinking, socialising and playing computer games that is

I think I'll have to get my multi-tasking skills up to speed then! Can I manage watching telly whilst reading political philosophy, eating and chatting to housemates, I wonder?

Because Mike's a pedant?

I tend to prefer the Latin styles, or something with a bit of energy, such as the jive in the video. Waltz's and other more traditional ballroom styles are achingly elegant at times, and require more refined movements to do really well (as they're generally slower): the Latin styles have a more explicit passion to them, which is more appealing to me at the moment. Quite representative of the cultures they're from, in a way. Maybe the Latin thing is just a trend, that fascination with romanticised foreign culture we Brits occasionally get? Either way, it's all good, but unfortunately I know very little with regards to the subtleties of it all. I just enjoy watching it and occasionally flailing around my room as well.

If I could find a dance partner, I might just consider going to some classes. Maybe Mike or Lizzie could share some of their dance experiences from Cuba? I'm sure there must've been a bit at some point.
