Broadband Question

Post by johnriley1uk »

Mr A has a BT line which has added security - is it called BT Plus? He cannot get his Orange broadband to connect. The Speedtouch Modem will not initialise and Orange say there is something wrong with his line.

The question is could it be the added BT secirity causing a block on his ADSL connection?

Anybody have any ideas?

I don't know the only way to find out is to ask with BT.

This does sound very much like my problem with Sky. Both companies blame each other and don't try and get the problem resolved. BT can run checks on his line remotely for the broadband service so that can be completed very easily. I would suggest they run that remote test then also check what the BT Plus actually blocks and see if they can 'allow' another broadband service to access the line.

Why would you need BT Plus though? What is it adding extra security from?

Thanks, Mike. The extra security is to do with financial transactions that he makes.

By the way, can you add those star smilies to my forum? Cheers!

I am surprised he is willing to pay for the BT Plus but not the BT Broadband. I know orange is free but OMG have you read some of the reviews? I have also heard that a friend (andrea) had stupidly long problems with Orange Broadband. I don't know if she has even sorted it out now and it will be about 3 months since she signed her phone contract.

I honestly think that Broadband service is worth paying for. You can not fault a seamless service and quality speed of your connection especially when you compare it hours of frustration being kept on hold and waiting for years talking to different people each time and having to explain it over and over again!

There do seem to be some good providers out there too so there is plenty of competition in the market for people to choose from too.
BT Broadband is good quality service and I have never had any problems. They are based on the old copper wire technology so are markedly slower in the upgrade speeds. BT is on 8mb at the moment and others on the market are up to 24mb easilly. The same site as above rates them here.
Bulldog is a fast service - reviews.
Pipex is one of the oldest ISP and is supposed to be very good and fast speeds to boot. Reviews.
O2 Broadband gets a surprise write up on the same site with a better rating than all of the others. Review. Personally I have never heard of them as a provider which is interesting. Would be interested to hear what people I know think of them.

The problem was eventually sorted. Apparently he had put filters on each and every item connected to an extension hub, instead of just one at the socket itself.

Too many filters = not happy situation.
