Re: Book Stairs
Now that is cool. I would have one of those if I had the house to suit it!

Re: Book Stairs
That type of staircase is practically a ladder anyway, so it's only used where you really have no space for a full flight: you can see the alternating extruded bits for stepping up it. However, it does make it very suitable for shelving , as long as you aren't clumsy / careless and end up kicking your books to pieces.

Still cool. If I ever converted my loft then that would be an idea for some stairs..... Hmm, that is a possibility...
I expect IKEA will be doing one in the near future. Probably be called Pwanger or something crap like that.

Re: Book Stairs
Bex wants these stairs... answers on a postcard as to where they'll go in a flat with no need of stairs, but there you go.
I think they'd take some getting used to (with the alternating tread pattern), not good drunk?

If you fall down and break your foot you could always blame it on ''that flaming Tolstoy for making War and Peace so bleeding long'' or ''chuffing Dostoevsky, now its me having the punishment. It's criminal!''
I bet the nurses of any general hospital who always say ''I've seen them all and heard them all'' have never heard that one and will want to see it.

Re: Book Stairs
I think they are stairs going into loft conversions - I don't think they are legal in any other location, could be wrong though, it is just off the top of my head.
As for your flat - you will just have to get the flat above and then put some internal stair in. . . . if you need an architect my fee's are really reasonable
