Jorvik

John and I went to Jorvik on Saturday.

The museum takes you back in time (with the aid of a 'time machine') and on a roller coaster ride (though at a very slow pace) through Viking York. The 'set' is designed to resemble York during the Viking era, with all the people being recreated from skeletons (the technique they use on Time Team) and different scenes set up to show different aspects of daily life. The whole place smells, but that's part of the experience, and there is even a man on the toilet (with food poisening which was very common).

However the museum is small and quite expensive for an hours worth of entertainment (about £9.00). John didn't really like it as he had seen better (but he's been to Viking museums in Copenhagan). But I feel that as a short visual guide to what a Viking settlement looks and smells like, it will be an image that will stay in my mind for a long while.
