Cool Education Buildings
Young Spanish Architects Crystal Zoo (in spanish - translations please!) have designed an extension for Seu University and it looks amazing. I would love to be involved in something that slickly resolved and neat, I was going to be involved in something like this at Arca for Cornerhouse we had really hit the nail on the head but as you are aware they are no longer involved (with me or the project!)! It is a very simple idea but the details look supurb!
These are my favourite images:
This is a beautiful floor. Lets be honest it looks good with the reflections, the furniture and the carefully considered lighting from above.
This image shows a very nice co-ordination between a simple desk design and a set of cupboards that probably (but not necessarilly) cover a series of M&E equipment, radiators or just plain storage. Again a very simple idea but very well executed.

Re: Cool Education Buildings
Well you now know a plethora of Architect's who would be more than willing to demolish your old school and rebuild it. All you have to do is to convince your Education Authority / Head Teacher. . . .

Re: Cool Education Buildings
With the amount of schools in close proximity to us, it really is up in the air what the L.E.A. are going do..... Massive rumours circulate about one closing (*cough Hecky Fleck *cough they have a very low intake for the third year running) and two being combined. I think Bedford will remain but I think that they will rebuild and also demolish Westleigh and combine the two under a new name. It will be a shame as the Bedford building, especially the old grammar school, is a beautiful one with many historical features. Currently, we are spending money as if it is going out of fashion to modernise our school and it is looking much better. The trouble is that it is about 7 years too late but we are catching up fast....

Why 7 years too late? I guess the modernsation is a good thing. The school seems to have improved massively since we left about a decade ago!

Forest School by Robert Gaukroger as featured on Dezeen.com. The textures and thought that went into this building is very impressive. I like colour of the material too, you would expect the disparate weathing to be a problem but it actually looks like a good feature (either by design or blind luck!). This is my favourite view.

Nursery in France. Nice simple and elegant. Larch is the main cladding material though so it will probably age badly.

West Buckland School by Rundell Associated. A beautiful building using untreated Larch, the interior utilises the same material to very good effect.

Re: Cool Education Buildings
Those cells in the facade look like something Gaudi might have done (needs more tiles!), but maybe not with the same overall form. They'll also shade the building as well, which is wise for LA.

Re: Cool Education Buildings
Josephine Baker School. This school is awesome, the use of colour and sculptural building form is amazing. I would love to produce a building of this quality. It would be interesting to see what people think.
The best bits about the school are the consistent use of orange, the clever methods for applying colour. For example they use walls, floor, ceiling, internal lining to windows etc all to highlight and enforce the shapes, recesses and steps. Very intelligent design and obviously very strong willed designers and clients to be able to see it through to the completed building.

I like that last one. I think the colour lifts it.

Moritzburg Museum Extension by Niento Sobejano Architects is a supurb building. This is my favourite type of building and elegantly done.
