Narcolepsy

This is an interesting article about Narcolepsy and is about a young woman telling us about her experiences with the disorder and how she works to make it through the day awake. Considering she was not diagnosed till last year it is a testoment to her inner strength that she managed to go through university and hold down a research position at the university. The sleeping during lectures must have been difficult to explain away though.

That was very interesting, but it must be pretty scary not to know if you are awake or asleep.

The one thing mentioned that I can do is sometimes "dream to order" - that is, decide to dream about something and then do so. Can everyone do that or is it just me?

She seems to have it slightly easier than the girl on the trailer I saw this evening (who was falling asleep with no warning whatsoever). I'm not entirely sure her description at the start is entirely correct: you're either awake and hallucinating or asleep and still dreaming, not both at the same time. Agreed that it must be freaky not knowing what's real or not for a while.

Being able to lucid dream would be cool: in extreme cases, because the conscious area of your brain is still "on", you can experience touch and other senses (so I'm told). Personally, I can sometimes direct my dreams, but it's difficult not to wake up once this occurs in most cases.

I love vivid dreaming. It would be strange to find out that your dreams were reality and reality were dreams.

If my reality was a dream then I'd be pretty p!ssed! Working 5 days a week in grey Bolton for not much cash and even less praise...yikes!

What can we say? You are obviously a sick individual who is in need of serious help from a qualified phyciatrist!
