Imperialism (PC)

Post by Mike »

Dos Games Online allows you to download a copy of the classic game Imperialism. This is a game of trade and war where you had to take on other Major Powers prior to WW1. Using Trade, Diplomacy and War you could dominate other colonies and increase your power. Pretty good as games go and from memory I would give it 5s. I will see about downloading this on the Laptop later and see if it retains its quality.

Mike, I mentioned D.O.G. to you but realised it was actually a front-end for DOSBox, but it does make life a lot easier for running DOS games through it. This link is for a list of front-ends from the DOSBox wiki: front-end list.

Doesn't look like D.O.G. itself is updated much, but it still works as far as I know. The advantage is that you can have individual profiles for loads of DOS games, and run them with minimal clickage. From what I remember of DOSBox it can be a bit long-winded at times, so this solves it nicely.

Am totally suspicious about the free downloads of DosGames. Have you used the service before?!

The site I mainly downloaded them from has now gone offline, but I've never had any problems downloading from elsewhere. As long as you exercise the usual common sense and have a working virus-checker, you'll be fine.

Strictly speaking you should only download them if you own the original or they've been declared "adandonware".

I do own the game. It would not be installed on XP buy for some reason the download works great. Did not even need dosbox! LOL

Now obsessed with the game again. It seems harder than I remembered. The labour shortages are really starting to get difficult. For some reason I don't seem to be able to get sufficient people in the capital. I guess that I should make sure that I have more farmers, more transport and more military to defend the ever expanding realm!
