The Dangers of Working Life

Post by Mike »

This week I have managed to cut myself on paper, a metal clip for holding paper in an A3 file and a glass sample. The glass sample cut has even tarnished the Contractors no injuries record. Does anyone else work in such a highly dangerous environment?

Does mental trauma count?

It does if extreme and life threatening. Working for the UK government does fall into that category!

I think the top three reasons for long-term sick leave for our department were published recently: stress & mental problems was top, followed by back & other musculoskeletal problems.

Basically we're stress-heads who slouch too much.

Your contractors must be like "What! we've tarnished our injury record for that!?" Paper cuts are damn vicious though, especially if it's the nice thick tracing paper or other glossy stuff.

Nope, we're basically encouraged not to take sick leave anyway so even if I had sliced my hand off in the warehouse I'd probably be tempted to put a tissue over it and go back to my desk! Don't want to lose my bonus do I?

paper cuts, sometimes you don't realise they've been inflicted...that is until you wash your hands!

also not a good idea, to drop a big-ass stapler on your foot...when wearing sandals!

I went to get some A1 tracing paper one fine day, to find I had to open the new box...

'Please may I have some scissors (to the secretary)'

Two minutes later...

'Please may I have a plaster'

At least we had a laugh about it.

The worst was when (in school days, though not at school so no school nurse) I stapled the end of my thumb (maybe staplers were more dangerous in those days). First there is a quesy feeling, then you realise you have to get said offending item out *gulp*. :-(

I don't think staplers have gotten any more dangerous, so I'll go with user error on that one. At least you aren't one of our housemates: she would just have fainted.

Wouldn't like to be a CDT teacher... bandsaws plus children. Damn.

staplers are GREAT! I've still got grooves in my skull where I fractured it... it had to be stapled back together!
