Millies Furniture

Post by Mike »

I designed some furniture for Millies bedroom and just got a quote of £3400 for the wardrobe and chest of drawers. I think I have ideas above my station here, IKEA it is!

Thanks for that valuable insight Phil. You are lucky that Lizzie never reads this forum else you could be in trouble. ;-)

It is a shame we cant afford to have something bespoke made but I guess IKEA is going to be a solid and dependable alternative. I think Lizzie will be pleased when she gets that room sorted, it has been a mess for a long, long time. We have looked at the PAX and MALAM in white to appease my modernist aesthetic.

Both "tampax" n "soothing balm "are good. (where do they get the names!?)
We've combined those lines in our flat, looks ok and easy enough to build.

Ordered and due to be delivered tomorrow morning between 8:30 and 9:30! Those are amazing delivery times for a Sunday morning! Especially when you consider that we only ordered everything today at 2pm!

Talking randomly about furniture...

My grandma has a hand made post war 2 wardrobe and dressing table with mirror bedroom set. Dark veneer with cathedral doors. Lovely. Grandma said last weekend it was a shame that none of the family would want it when she was gone. My instant response was to act like a three year old in a sweet shop... 'me! me me me!' Hopefully I will inherit it plus all the other lovely hand made furniture! I already have the three-piece suite (which admittedly needs recovering).

Mike, what were you specifying for the wood? Oak or rare woods or something? Still, it'd likely last forever, but that's a steep initial outlay.

Liz, I'm slightly curious as to what "cathedral doors" entail. I've got images of a huge gothic-styled wardrobe in my head now!

It wasn't anything rare! It was White laquered finish with hardwood lippings. Nothing too precious!

Liz, does the wardrobe hold the gateway to the mythical land of Narnia? How cool would that be?! I have a very exciting image in my head...

Actually never thought of it that way, but yes they do look like the wardrobe in Narnia. Never tried to step inside them and don't think there's any fur coats in them, but it would be awsome if they were. :-D
