I guess the only way you could totally avoid detection is to literally leave everyone you know behind and never contact them again.

I love the fact there's a guidebook on how to do it, but it's basically impossible with the amount of data we inadvertently leave behind. You'd need to go to a new country, give up all your old hobbies, never call home, never have your photo taken... I don't even know how you'd go about getting a new identity.
