Modern Lens Technology

Post by johnriley1uk »

With a title like that you just know I've got something odd to tell you, well here's my latest lens (actually I'm selling it for ADAPS) sitting next to my diminutive Pentax Auto 110. Who knows what it is?

It's a big lens that probably takes very poor photographs! Is it a rare antique?

It's an Aero lens for taking high resolution aerial images, dating from WWII. Very high qiality for the purpose, but lousy when put in front of a Modern DSLR I would think.

I was going to guess "some kind of zoom lens", but that was fairly clear from the size of it. I'd like to think there's a nice backstory to it, but you'd have to know the name of the plane it was on etc etc.

I think it was a plane that did not make it (by the look of the 'usage'!)

On the Pentax User forum someone opined that it was a Canon L lens, as you could see where some of the white paint had not quite rubbed off....

There was a bit of spam that was posted in this forum. I deleted the user and their post, unfortunately it does not actually pull back the notification email!
