I think it's time we had a little space to talk about music.....

As a Cad Monkey i have found my musical interests expanding to occupy the other wise day to day drudge of staring at random (and often meaningless) jumbles of lines.

For what it worth here is my two peneth. and a list of some of my favourite all time albums as well as my favourite new* stuff

Some all time favourites in no particular order!

1. Pink Floyd - Darkside of the Moon.
2. Black Sabbath - Masters Of Reality.
3. Nirvana - Nevermind
4. Metallica - Metallica (the black one)
(..... AND NO IT'S NOT CALLED THE BLACK ALBUM)
5.Greenday - Dookie
6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik.
7. The Black Keys - Thickfreakness
8. The Presidents of the USA - The Presidents of the USA
10. Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood
11. Portishead - Dummy
12. Beach Boys Endless Summer

I could go on and on but it is a disscusion not a discourse and easy to get obvious ...
So here be a few new* ones for u to try if u want...

1. Brighteyes - I'm Wide Awake it's morning
2. Jurrasic 5 - Quality Control
3. DJ Shadow - In tune and on Time

Singing to my hairbrush...

Post by liz.brownlloyd »

Er as my msn name at one point mentioned me singing to Kylie... I think I'll leave any comments there...

Kirsty MacColl - Tropical Brainstorm is my favorite album, always makes me happy and I unfortunatly know (or at least think I know) all the words to.

Alanis Morisette - Jagged Little Pill for when life sucks...

Anything by Moloko - though Pure Pleasure Seeker is probably my absolute fave.

Newbe addition to CD collection which I'd recommend - The Zutons.

And an amazing amount of best of CDs which encompass a fair selection of 20th and 21st century music (not massively into classical).

now this thread i like but am spoilt for who to put in the list

in no particular order

bright eyes - wide awake its morning (excellent stuff harks back to the good dylan stuff as opposed to the mediocre - been listening to a lot lately)

foo fighters- one by one (especially times like these - starting to become something of an anthem in my life)

pretty much anything with stones, led zep, gnr or nirvanna

anything by the pogues when ur feelin ornery (for the english among u that means pissed an ready for a brawl)

Jimi hendrix - take ur pick the man was god (i said was for the athiests amongst the true believers he IS god)

Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory (still a good album even after commercialisation)

U2 - joshua tree & unforfettable fire (sorry but the 90's stuff was limp boys like a soggy guiness)

the waterboys - fishermans blues (their irish phase, for some bloody good earier pseudo punk stuff got for the pan within)

nora jones (chill out an feel good factor)

neil young - unplugged (seminal)

eminem - eminem story (not a big rap lover but u gotta admire his digs at himself an the music biz in general an the shite life he had)

also lurvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeee loads of indiviual songs as opposed to albums (now that list could leave us here all day) tend to make playlists and just run with it......

hmmmmmmmmmmmm i cansee a new list starting

As a full member of Metallica's fanclub, I feel it my place to inform you Mr Knight that while the fifth studio album from the band is only marked Metallica on the sleeve, the band themselves refer to it as the Black Album as do the legions of fans who would sell their children to have a copy.

Still, interesting topic - though I do believe I started one myself very similar to this not that many weeks ago entitled 'Soundtrack To Your Life' on this very part of the site. However, this one seems concerned more with albums instead of individual songs, so here's my two copper pieces worth (in no particular order):

 Vulgar Display Of Power Pantera

 Overnight Sensation Motorhead

 Load Metallica

 Rocket To Russia Ramones

 Plastic Surgery Disasters Dead Kennedys

 Damaged Black Flag

 Static Age The Misfits

 Hollywood Potato Chip The Vandals

 Electric Shock Blues The Eels

 Dizzy Heights Lightning Seeds

A shocking oversight on my part due to the fact I have been in virtual hibernation this week led to some glaring abscenes from my list:

Nimrod Greenday

Bleach Nirvana

Automatic For The People REM

3 excellent additions to list there

I am not a fully paid up member of metallica fan club merely long term fan..... (still not wholey warmed so St Anger) I gained my first copy of "the black album" shortly after its release( regardless of . That and Nevermind broadly coincide with and form the soundtrack to much of my early teenage years. I even sustained a concussion leaping around to smells like teen spirit ( you shoulda seen the other guys face... at least his face my to back of my head was only ever gonna come out in my favour)

I digress

Incubus - Morning View

Queens of the Stonage - all pretty good but "songs for the Deaf" takes it for me pure because it contains "No One Knows" one of my current fav tracks ever.

In consideration of St Anger even James Hetfield has now admitted he thinks its too long - eleven songs in seventy-five minutes is enough to send anyone over the edge - but I do think it has more to offer than the panning its got from the likes of Kerrang magazine. Okay, there are no solos, but listen to the riffs and you can hear that while Hetfield pile-drives the main assault, Kirk is under the surface doing some pretty subtle stuff.

As a wannabe four-stringer I can say without fear of contridiction the bass is announymous for most of time; Bob Rock is a good producer but for some reason he's always had problems doing the bass parts - you have to turn up the stereo damn loud to make out Jason Newsted's contributions to any of the records he was on and Bob wasn't about to turn up his own playing either.

The drums were titanic, but hopefully the tom-tom wont make as big an appearance on the next opus - I have to quote Danny Filfth here (even though I can't stand death metal's answer to a comedy dwarf) when he said; 'Lars was playing on a biscuit tin for most of the album.'

A good effort, but next time has to try harder for a shorter amount of time - keep the songs under six minutes please lads. Still, general perceptions believe the next 'tallica record will be more of a return to the old thrash days - though considering the sounds of Load and St Anger were never expected who can say for sure? What is sure is that Rob is a bass playing god and all things sound deeply thunderous in that department from now on. Yay!

In a vain attempt to keep this brief:

Afro Celt Sound System / Volume 1 - Sound Magic
Auf Der Maur
Bauhaus / Crackle
Brand New / Deja Entendu
Buena Vista Social Club
Cure / Disintegration
Deftones / White Pony
Finch / What It Is To Burn
Green Day / Nimrod
Jeff Buckley / Grace
Killers / Hot Fuss
Matchbox Twenty / Yourself Or Someone Like You
Metallica / Garage Inc
Mission / Gods Own Medicine
Pearl Jam / Ten
Perfect Circle / Mer De Noms
System Of A Down
Tool / Lateralus
Tori Amos / Tales Of A Librarian
Type O Negative / October Rust

I could still do with listing about fifteen more, as I love all my babies.
With regards to St. Anger: can you say "Pro Tools"? I think they chopped a lot of riffs in and out there, and the snare sounded like, let's face it, crap.

Some good choices in here. Personally, I only ever buy albums, but is this entirely abnormal, or does anyone else also refuse to pay extortionate prices for singles?

Why keep it brief? I thought listing about 80 albums would be overkill. Anesthesia is like an uber bass riff. Speaking of which, I just got Rancid's ...And Out Come The Wolves, and that has some crazy little bass solos on it.
I'm trying to remember the name of a little program that tracks your song usage and uploads it to t'internet, for all to see and marvel at, but no luck. Probably a secret music industry data collection plot.

I seem to recall a friend of mine saying something about one of his housemates writting a piece of software that does most of that and some other neat stuff will find out more and see if we can "borrow" it.
