Blackadder
I was talking about this the other day with mr_e. How old is Blackadder Goes Forth?

Hmmm, I believe it would be either 1989 or 1992. I think it is earlier than 1992 because that was the year I started high school and I was never allowed to watch Blackadder until that time. I still have and have shown to my classes (applause please) Blackadder Goes Forth on video. So I wil go for 1989.
Before stating my answer I think I shall tootle on down to my father's house and ask him as he has just bought the box set. Incidentally, I've watched a few episodes and it is still unbelievably funny. Classic comedy at its best!

mr_e and I were saying how timeless the jokes were the other day. Its one of the comedy greats of the 20th Century. I will leave off giving the correct answer until a few more people have voted.

I said 1989, that's just because I can't imagine it being done in the 90's, really.

I can now let you know that 40% are correct. It was 1989! I was well impressed with that one, I would have thought it was alot later than that. Just goes to show, timeless comedy.

I never cheated and looked at the box or anything. The video we have appears to contain the first three episodes: Captain Cook, Corporal Punishment, and Major Star. Shockingly, there only to be 6 episodes in each of 4 series, including the slightly dodgy first one. Brief but good.

They knew when to stop, like Fawlty Towers it ran for 12 episodes and they were all really good. Friends ran for nearly 100 (some one please correct that figure) and some episodes were total dros.
Fawlty Towers 5/5
Friends 3/5

I agree, Friends in the beginning was hilarious but at the end it seemed to be the same joke packaged in a different formula. The Young Ones is another good example of a short comedy film sketch. Is it me or, even though they are so few episodes, you never actually feel as though you've watched them all?Mike wrote:They knew when to stop, like Fawlty Towers it ran for 12 episodes and they were all really good. Anyway, favourite Blackadder quotes anyone?
I'd rather spend an evening on top of a ladder in No Man's Land smoking endless cigarettes through a luminous balaclava.
Your brain's so minute, Baldrick, that if a hungry cannibal cracked your head open, there wouldn't be enough to cover a small water biscuit.
God made man in his own image, and it would be a sad look out for Christians around the globe if God looked anything like you Baldrick.
I remember seeing a lot of Friends episodes somewhere recently...have your parents got the entire set, Mike? There must've been about 8 series.
The luminous balaclava quote is superb.

Blackadder Standard procedure, leftenant, is to jump 200ft in the air and spread yourself over a large area

We have the first 7 series on DVD. Later than that, they start to get a bit pathetic and everyone is just too old and tired. How long can a joke last? Series 6 was pretty weak as well, but 7 was an improvement.I remember seeing a lot of Friends episodes somewhere recently...have your parents got the entire set, Mike? However, 1-5 are good and the sort of thing you can dip into when a spare half hour presents itself.
Mostly harmless.
Oh...my...God...there were 230 episodes in total of Friends. I do hope that isn't the only thing that survives from our civilisation. What would people think?
