Well. Tonight has been rather eventful. At about 6pm Lizzie went to bed to get some sleep and then went into a rather quick round of urgent contractions that Lizzie felt were very strong and powerful. The hospital was rung 45 minutes later and they convinced us to have a visit from the community midwife. The contractions were getting stronger all the while and Lizzie started to say "I want to push!". Oh dear as we were still at home and no sign of a midwife. The midwife turned up expecting just a check up to find Lizzie 9.5cm dilated ("I can't find the cervix" being her first comment) and ready to give birth. Plans out of the window and we had a home birth! Lizzie did great and had no drugs at all despite some co-codemol taken early in the process (and the gas and air trip later to deliver the Placenta - shits and giggles really. It was funny to watch).
Baby Amelia Jane was born on 23 March 2009 at 11:02pm weighing in at a whopping 8lbs. Go Lizzie. We are currently trying to make her do a quick feed before the midwives leave.
Thanks to the midwives for a great job!
Well done Lizzie!

Congratulations! That's a very healthy birth-weight and it sounds like it went pretty well.
Despite mostly not showing it, I'm actually really excited for you all, even to the extent that a little chair-dance was done.

Funny I think that Amelia is also doing a little chair dance. But that is probably her first poo. She seems to be having some trouble with that one. Lets be honest - it just is not natural to squeeze something out without having eaten.
Thanks for the Congratulations everyone!

Congratulations guys, when is Amelia getting her forum login?
I doubt she'll ever tire of being told the story of her birth, particularly in front of her friends when she's in her early teens.
"...did we ever tell you that Amelia was born right here, on this very floor?"

CONGRATULATIONS!
Though I think you've put me off having children for life...
Glad to hear that the midwife got to you in time, I was hoping Mike hadn't had to deliver it
Welcome to the world Amelia! x

Well...I've never been more pleased to be woken up by a late night text message!!! Brilliant news. Amelia is a beautiful name, very elegant. No teacher will ever complain about that one!
My head of department is 5 months pregnant and was intrigued to say the least by the home birth story - she'll be relieved to hear that the midwife made it in time!
Anyhoo, it's wonderful news, congratulations again!
