Transactions for iPhone allows you to charge people on the go. I wonder how this could be used. Professional photographers, Car Boot Sales, Travelling Salesmen. Anyone think of any more?!

I have read about the new iPhone OS 3.0. We have copy paste, push notification and landscape keyboard among other things like in-app purchasing (the sims was demoed. That could get expensive!)
Free upgrade for iPhone 3G users but no news on a new model of iPhone. Oh well good things come to those who wait!

iPhone version 3 to be a one stop studio for recording, editing and publishing video.
I can't believe this is the first time I have posted about the new version of the iPhone that is likely to hit the shelves in June 09. I think there may be more in the Apple Fanboy Facts thread!

Cover of the New Yorker Magazine was created on an iPhone using the App Brushes. Neat and very talented!

iTunes 8.2 was released on Monday 1 June 2009 and it is assumed that this is a pre-cursor to the iPhone 3.0 software release. Everyone has assumed that Apple are trying to avoid the same issues they had with the new iPhone, iPhone software 2.0 and iTunes all being released on 7 July 2008. ie the long activation times, the difficulty in connecting to Apple servers and general disappoinment suffered by those purchasing a new phone (such as myself).
If I was going to guess, I would suggest that Apple are either, going to release the iPhone software 3.0 w/c 8 June 2009 with the phone to follow, or they will release the phone and software at the same time. The World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) will being on 8 June 2009 so it would appear to be a good time to get the announcements out of the way.

Carphone Warehouse computer systems have been flagged showing references to iPhone V3 (or third generation iPhone). I wonder if this means the release is coming sooner than expected or it is just in expectation. I doubt apple will refer to the product as V3.

iPhone OS 3.0 will be released on 17 June 2009 (next wednesday) and the new iPhone 3GS will be released on 19 June 2009 in the USA and the UK.
The new phone is faster (CPU and RAM) with larger storage space.
The new phone OS has new features (MMS, copy and paste, turn by turn direction etc).
New Mobile Me feature to find the 'lost or stolen iPhone' - remotely wipe the information from the device and then restore from backup when it is found again. Mobile Me has just become the most valuable subscription I have!
I am looking forward to it very much but am not sure if I can upgrade my phone yet. Very disappointing if I can not upgrade till the last month of the contract.

02 have announced the pricing for the phone. For my contract cost the phone is £275 for a 32gb model and £184 for a 16gb model. I think if I get one of these it will have to be the 16gb version again.
Since the cost in the USA is $299 for the 32gb model I feel rather jipped. Using the current exchange rate that means people in the UK are paying a $144 dollar premium!
I won't be able to upgrade until the last month of my contract anyway so I guess I will have to wait! That will be December 09 / January 10. . .

Emailed O2 and will see what their response is. If I can't upgrade until December / January then I am struggling to see the benefit - if I hold on for another year I could get V4 that will surely be announced in June / July 2010.
Unless Lizzie joins O2 and an buy her a new iPhone and then steal it. That is rather low, I think you will all agree!
It is good to see Apple have the sequence right this year.
iTunes 8.2 released 2 weeks prior to phone launch.
OS 3.0 released 2 days prior to phone launch.
Phone launched with OS 3.0.
This reduces the chance of a serious bottle neck on their servers.

Im still quite happy with my 8gig iphone, but do occasionally find it gets pretty full pretty quickly (especially with the odd video file clocking in at around 700mb). I'll install the new software as n when, doubt it'll make too much difference to my life, but hey ho. I guess I'm not exploiting it to its full potential- I use it as a ipod touch with the added bonus of it making and receiving calls n texts.
Slightly OT, but... You got the new safari browser yet? Its Odd, but cool.. think its just little changes which are making a difference. I quite like the top sites option.
edit: Alex got an iphone last week/week before... wonder if he could complain that they never mentioned it when he got it??

Dude! How did you not know there was the potential for a new iPhone - especially considering my obsessive posting on the forums!
All I can say is 28 day return / exchange policy. Go and cancel and then get a new one. Price is much higher to be fair but at the very least get the 8gb £99 iPhone.
I am currently leaning towards keeping my existing 16gb phone and waiting for Version 4 next year, Lizzie may get one of the same type since her phone is up for renewal. Never mind O2, when your exclusivity is up you will have to stop ripping off customers. It is probably time Apple dropped those agreements and started to introduce some competition.

Two articles that are proof the iPhone is more expensive in the UK compared with the 3G version.
zdNet has a quote from O2 saying they are Subsidising the handset less than the last release - ie making us pay more. The 16gb model cost £159 in 2008 but £184 in 2009, when you factor in that the 16gb version is now equivalent to the 32gb model we are being asked to pay £116 more for the top end model!
Guardian has a great quote from O2.
Mr O2 PR Man wrote:All our iPhone tariffs are the best value: you're not going to find a better deal anywhere else
.
How very true, they have an exclusivity agreement (or monopoly) and there are NO other deals elsewhere.
It is funny that I got a bit of a roasting on the Apple forums for saying I was disappointed. Oh well.

O2 iPhone 3G Prices. This is the time to pick up a new iPhone 3G before the rediculously expensive 3GS comes out. Free 8gb version and £58 for a 16gb version. That is very good pricing structure! Think about it johnriley1uk and Lizzie!

Mum got him it for graduation... so not much consultation. He's got the 16gig 3G version, and is quite happy with it, but he MAY be able to wrangle a bit of cash back as they have dropped the price SO far.

Lizzie signed up for a Free 8gb iPhone yesterday, the number will remain the same and she should be activated and up and running in about 24 hours. It is really good value compared with the new tarrifs!
CNet have published a few quotes from O2 blaming Apple for the price increase. Lets be honest here. They are saying that the price has increased this year because of their reduced subsidy on the phone. They also made this contradictory statement
O2 wrote:Apple's UK wholesale price for the midrange 16GB 3G S is the same as it charged last year for the top-end 16GB 3G, the O2 spokesman said.
He also indicated that the wholesale price of this year's top-end 32GB 3G S was the same as that of last year's top-end 16GB 3G, saying: "The wholesale price in pounds sterling of the iPhones remains the same, so we have priced the devices in line with this."
Which is it? 16GB GS the same as the 16GB G or the 32GB GS the same price as the 16GB G? Personally I think it is the latter based on the mass of reports. I am sort of hoping that the 3GS bombs so that the price reduces dramatically.
It is also interesting that O2 are letting anyone spending £80 a month upgrade 6 months early. . . £45 a month 3 months early and £35 a month is the same at 1 month early. Those figures don't add up except to say that you have to spend £960 a year on a mobile phone contract to be classed as a valued customer. (or classed as insane by everyone else!)
