the truly excellent beer in question that i cannot recommend enough is called 'okocim' and is available in poland in three varieties; 12%, 7.5% and 5%. the weaker of the three is the one we drank the most of while in karkow and it is wonderful stuff, strong with a smooth rich taste, great for turning 'a quick drink' on your first night in the city into a long drinking session while in a bar with a very good live band on hand to keep you entertained. all types of alcohol in poland are generally stronger and better tasting than the stuff we get back here; on the one occasion i found a bar that sold strongbow i was sadly diappointed and went back to the native fire-waters as quickly as i could.

Thats just a rule of thumb wherever you go, I always tend to drink the local beers- as Claire will attest Tusker in Africa is heaven in a bottle, whatever the local beer was in Croatia was good too... Jamacian Red Stripe is practically a different beer from the p*ss it is in the UK.
I've started a booze thread in Reviews- wines, beers and spirits- whats good and whats on offer!
Today I have learned that a 'jiffy' is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second!

Oh.. I forgot to say, I also learned that ordering for flowers to be delivered to your wifes hotel room on valentines day earns a lot of brownie points!
and that doing so makes you a disgrace to the male species (according to my father in law

)

Well, either that or it is putting the rest of us to shame!

Lesson 23 Lacross is cool to watch!
Lesson 24 Jenga is by one far, one of the best games you can play. The strategy, cheating (little kids knocking the table!) and giggles is amazing. Top banana.

Lesson 25
Replastering sections of your bathroom is a complete arse especially after a day's work.

Lesson 26 Microsoft are just about to release key software blueprints to the public and go open source. The only problem is anyone found using the blueprints will be sued with in an inch of their lives if it is found to be make available for non-commercial purposes.
BBC article is found here.

"[Microsoft] also promised not to sue open source developers for making that software available for non-commercial use."
I totally trust Microsoft (sort of) when they say this: after all, it's better than someone making money at their expense, right?

Lesson 27 Pedigree by pints provides hideously horrific hangovers.
Lesson 28 Microsoft is quite happy to bring in a service update that will brick third party applications. I wonder if they are not paid up members of the Microsoft fan club? (to be fair - apple have also done this!)

I learnt today that when flying your brand new Boeing 777, make sure that you don't have the Chief Executive of your company on board when you decide to re-create Top Gun by performing a wheels-up fly-by of the airport you just took off from (even if it is really funny and supremely impressive) as it may get you the sack!
Here's an article about it (including pic)...
Boeing fly-by.

Today I learned that my ants are REALLY aggressive when you have to break up the nest to get a fungus sample!
Todays other lesson was that next time the damned student can collect her own samples!

Tile paint is a complete sod to put effectively because it is sooooo runny and you need a smooth surface. I anticipate I will possibly have to do two more coats. Swine!

I was right. Another coat and still I need to do another one because I am a bit of a perfectionist and proud of my updated bathroom!
What did I learn today and yesterday evening? Loads of stuff.
I learned the various ways of laying a makeshift exterior plywood floor around a bathroom suite on top of a very uneven floor, etc
I learned why to use exterior plywood instead of normal plywood.
Using the same material, I learned how to fit a bath panel.
I learned why you use a primer.
I learned that self-adhesive tiles can look good if time is taken to lay them.
I also learned that if you work from 7until 10 Monday to Thursday and 4.30 until 11.30 on a Friday night and then get up at 5.30 on a Saturday and work until 7pm you too could turn an eysore into quite a nice looking bathroom using the same suite for about £500 but you will be knackered beyond belief.

I've been away so...
1 Its cheaper to get from Manchester to North Berwick in the car than it is to get the train from North Berwick to Dundee!
2 Moving your entire itunes library to your external drive is EASY! (I got some more tunes and now have 99.7gig!! 66days!) But you lose your playlists.
3 when knife fighting COVER UP YOUR NECK!! or you will die

I'm covered in scratches from the rubber knives!
4 Driving thru the borders in the middle of a snow storm is interesting (in a scary way). I much prefer it in the sunshine!
5 Gourmet burger kitchen does GOOD burgers and AMAZING milkshakes. Although it is slightly more expensive than I expected.
