The Pursuit of Happiness (not the Will Smith moooovie)
Has anyone else read The Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy? i read it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. i would draw links with The Hours by i can't remember who. it's about the random workings of fate, i suppose and how happiness is this transient thing, the point being you have to recognise it when it passes through. read it, it's good. i also read Animal Farm for the first time yesterday, which i know is pretty late in life for an English graduate. an inspired work but less outright enjoyable i suppose. i wish i was better informed and could understand the full extent of the allegory and which faction each animal represented.
The crazy gets claustrophobic!
I was about to try to give a rundown of Animal Farm, but it's done much more thoroughly in the Wikipedia article. It seems to be quite a comprehensive allegory: almost all the characters represent russian classes or individuals, and the events have direct parallels as well. I'd agree it probably sacrifices a bit of its enjoyability, but bear in mind I did initially read it in school.
Somewhat more on-topic, I haven't read the novel the thread's actually about.
