iMac OS X "Tiger" or Windows XP?

Post by Mike »

Right now this is a controversial issue! Which is the most interesting / better operating system. I know that most of the poeple posting on this website are using Windows based systems but I just needed to ask!

The reason for asking is that at my new office they use iMac G5's with OS X operating system. And personally I love it. There are gadgets galore, customisations etc which make the system really easy and instinctive to use. I managed to pick up all the basics in about an hour and am now gonna see what it can really do!

I was totally surprised really because the iMac OS had not really changed since version 6 and that version looked alot like windows 3.1 which is ancient now.

In my humble opinion windows has lost ground comparitively - lets hope longhorn can make it up OR people get more programmes (games) onto the iMac OS!

I have to stick with the tried and tested, as Woody Allen said 'change is a sign of approaching death - I avoid all change wherever possible'. Just wait until your all singing all dancing iMac starts taking liberties - it'll be sleeping on your couch and telling you drunken stories of failed dreams next...why does that sound familiar...

I've never used OS X, but I voted for it anyway, because all my friends say it's cool. And stuff.

I'm never going to use it, but it's not Windows, so it must be better. Maybe.

Isn't the real strength of Windows that everybody, everywhere can use a Windows PC?

I'm sure that's a lot better than having lots of different operating systems.

I know what you are saying but the apple macs now have full conectivity with a windows network and a linux one for that matter. I am a bit of a fan of diversity and the mac OS provides alot of useful (things I use anyway) mini programmes which are easilly accessible at all times. After using Tiger for 1 week I really think windows needs to buck its ideas up.

Saying that, I am never going to change to macs until all the games etc all run on them. I am not going to give up playing games just because they dont want to develop them.

I found the mac o/s well pretty. It just annoyed me a bit. When the bill arrived at the office for the memory when they upgraded their ailing macs I nearly lost bladder control in the ensuing hysterics.

While they are very pretty the heavy cost of repairing and upgrading these machines (let alone the purchase price) means for now they remain the computing equivalent of a Prada bag.

Lets hope as mike says the new o/s for pc's is better. But change comes slowly in my head. For years i prefered windows 3.1 and only grudgingly upgraded to xp when got a decent pute.

P.s mike don't forget Mac OSX was released last yr when was Xp released.

I know that windows XP was released a couple of years ago now but think of the software leap that mac OS has made over version 9. Then look at the difference between ME and XP. The difference is a good step but I dont think they really innovated in their release they only improved an existing system, that was pretty painful as I recall.

I think the big (slightly truer) comparison will come when windows released the Longhorn project.

Hey, I still use ME! The only problem is that people have stopped writing software for it.
