Have you seen the latest gadget which allows you to track you children?! It gives their position to an accuracy of q.m and will send you an alerting txt if they are not in school by 9am or if they head towards a forbidden area (the newspaper had 'Boyfriends House' as the example). It is amazing that us adults are complaining about being watched too much and then go and invent something with such overwhelming Big Brother tendencies.

In addition could you imagine how much of a security threat these devices pose to military bases. All you need to do is get someone to hide the gadget on the target (they are smaller than a mobile phone) and you will pick up the co-ordinates of the position to within q.m.

Considering GPS car tracking was deliberately designed to be inaccurate to negate the above problem I am amazed they managed to get away with this one.

On the positive side, I suppose there are always security benefits in terms of being able to track missing children.

I suspect children will find ingenious ways to thwart the tracking device.

Putting it in a lead lined box would be good. Maybe tin foil would work. Or leave it in a parents car in the morning and collect it at night. Or reprogram it to record a journey via Alaska....

Such challenges in a 21st Century world.

Quite simply, they will end up giving it to an accomplice and they will take it with them to lessons. Why not just use the current system instead? Every lesson has an electronic register via the computer and it has to be done within 15 minutes. If kid isn't there then automatic phone goes through to parent. Works in 99.99% of cases. Usually works better because most of our staff do it with a bit of discretion/leeway as well - i.e. not hitler-esque. Also, office staff have the facility for first aid/trips.

At night, well, to be honest it is the parent's responsibility not an electronic gadget. Soon they'll be inventing a gadget to give a kid a hug and listen to it tell them all their problems whilst they do their professional job.

Dare I quote Duncan Bannatyne by saying ''You are creating a solution for a problem that isn't even there.'' ??? Dare I say that if they create this solution they'll create an even bigger problem???
