Woodstock Refurbishment

Post by Mike »

Well our usual Tuesday night haunt was re-opened on 12 December 07 and we made of first visit there for a hopeful pub quiz. They were not on with the quiz which was sort of annoying but I suppose we can all review the ambiance!

Downstairs and upstairs bars have become much darker and they were obviously aiming for the uber chic cool. I can't help feeling that the dark walls and gold ceiling in the upstairs bar was a bit oppressive for an out of town pub but it seemed to work okay. The atmosphere felt more closed and concentrated in our little group of friends! All in all not a bad refurbishment but no great designed shakes I would rate it a 3s.

It had a sort of eclectic art-deco boudoir vibe going on. Possibly a little too dark though, certainly as far as trying to read quiz sheets goes. It's totally weird, as I was expecting them to have gone for the paint-it-white sort of approach...bonus points for the different approach, but...just a bit weird.

Well Lammars and Odd have both done it so much better it does seem a little bit like a poor comparison. Like you say though Kudos for trying. Okay so you did not say exactly that but I think the thought is the same! [-]

I don't think I've been to either of those bars, but I'll try to pay some attention to the decor depending on how inebriated I am. Eerily enough, I was going to use the word "kudos", but then deleted and rephrased it.

lol - I love it when that happens!

At work I decided to phone a project manager about a small matter (the job has practically finished so we have next to no contact) and I rang just as she was looking for the number to ring me. Spooky or what?

Not as cool as the time i picked up the phone to call christine, and she was already on the line because she had called me and i'd literally picked it up the nano-second before the first brrrrinnnng!

I quite liked the Woodstock; I just wonder how it will seem in the summer months when dark and mysterious is not what you're looking for in a pub. (only the men in it, lol, oh damn it, why are there no girls on the forum anymore???!!!!!) ;-)

I think Lizzie is floating around and Chrissie has no internet at home. The forums are banned at her place of work which I think is totally amazing! :-)
