Re: Things Learned Today!
3.5 hours sleep is not good for working first thing on a Monday morning. Man I wish I could have slept yesterday.

Well, we have our new anthologies. Basically, they are the same apart from on that page it says ''This page has been left intentionally blank'' which is rather irritating and a huge waste of paper. I'm just waiting for 'Stealing' to be removed now and there is another picture that is fairly dodgy (to some pathetic people)as well. In the meantime, I expect a large amount of drawing to be done there with various pictures of supped-up cars, little genitalia. various emo faces and the constantly renewal of the ''I love....'' section complete with I.D.T. and I.D.S.T, such is the ways of the modern child.Andy wrote:I learnt today that ''Education For Leisure'' has been officially dropped from the AQA Anthology and that apparently new ones are being printed.

Re: Things Learned Today!
Stephen Fry had a great rant on his latest Podcast (number 5 if you are interested). The rant revolved around this 'policital correctness' issue. His problem revolved around a spy programme (he did not want to name due to a friend being involved in the writing it but then told us it had Harry Pearce in it ).
So Spooks. Mr Fry had the following problem. In one episode a person gets shot in the face. However, during the same episode as the spys are racing around London in a big rush they NEVER talk on their mobiles while driving (not even hands free kits) and always wear a seat belt. His writer friend told him this was because the BBC did not want to set children a bad example. So, he recapped, it was a good example to show someone being shot in the face but you cant drive without a seat belt or talk on your mobile. Well done BBC.

on the edinburgh uni website!
I'm working for the bloke who posted it.

I now know how to stop Mancunian congestion...leave home at 5:20am! Not entirely sure the absence of sleep is worth it though, despite not having to queue anywhere!
Say 'No' to congestion charging...get up earlier!

Yikees. What a time in the morning to up be and about and in work! I suspect that if the C-Charge comes in then it will be much busier in the morning as everyone tries to re-arrange their hours to come in earlier and leave earlier. Or worse. Come in earlier and leave laterBarcelonAl wrote:I now know how to stop Mancunian congestion...leave home at 5:20am!

Re: Things Learned Today!
I think you could be right...currently I'll be fine and if I ever moved into the city centre to work, I certainly wouldn't drive very often!
Oh...and 5:20 is a rubbish time to set-off for work, you're quite right. Especially when you went to the football the night before and didn't really get to get to bed until around midnight! I may fall asleep around about 10!

I regularly used to cycle to work in stirling at 5am, the roads were strangely quiet then too! Obviously it never affected my commute time, but it was quite good fun (in summer anyway- winter was EVIL... -15C on a few occaisions!) to ride through a deserted town... it felt a bit like 28days later!

Re: Things Learned Today!
Yesterday I learned a bit more about php driven photo galleries (like the forum software). I am still trying to find out if there is an extension for wordpress that also supports the uploading of photographs.

Re: Things Learned Today!
Edinburgh is MUCH colder than Manchester!
I got out my waterproof, windproof thermal cycling gloves (the ones which have been MORE than sufficient for the past 3 Manchester winters)... and 10mins down the road couldn't feel my hands!
Time to get some better ones! (I think its the windchill doing it to be honest, there was a North wind coming down and according to a friend the windchill took it from -2 to -7!)

Yikkey, that is pretty bad. I don't envy you at all! Bet the short sleeved waterproofs are out of the window now!

Edinburgh gets all that lovely North Sea air. Woot. You could possibly try a thin silk liner glove, they're pretty good with wind-stopping and thermal properties.

BADLY!
The roads were AWFUL this morning! I binned it once (ungritted corner, slid into kerb... managed to jump off and stay up. Fun Fun Fun!). It snowed heavily last night, thawed and refroze, so the roads were treacherous- I also saw 3 car shunts, nothing major, but even so It IS strangely fun riding in these conditions tho, and certainly NO worse than rusholme anytime!

Audi A6 drivers are (as Jeremy Clarkson would put it), 'Cocks'.
In this rubbish weather I had one so close to the back of my car on the M60 that I may as well have charged him a fare! Somehow he avoided driving into the back of me but I suspect that was more through luck than judgement...

I don't like stairs with glass balustrades next to them. They make my life very difficult for no good reason!
