Wired provided apple some key pointers in 1997 when they were considering if they should go bankrupt. Thankfully apple ignored most of the advise and focused on their wonder products of the 21st century. ;-)

Essay relating examining apple's management technique if you can devote any time to it it is very interesting. Only problem is it is over 5 pages long!

MacWorld actually bought one of Psystar's Open Machines which is a computer for $399 that can run OS X. One of the first things that the MacWorld review says is they eventually ended up spending $750 including a graphics card update, install of OS X and delivery.

Lets just consider this one moment. A Mac Mini costs $599 and you are getting the genuine article. A MacBook is $1099 and and iMac is $1199. . . okay so for the laptop and imac you are looking at spending another $350-$450 dollars fair point.

It then goes on to say that you can not upgrade the version of OS X. Time Machine does not work, the automatic update does not work and a variety of extras don't function and a power cable was installed catching the fan. Not a great user experience so far is it? Oh and the fan is very loud.

So for these. iMacs are practically silent. Easy to upgrade and work from being pulled out of its superb packaging. Why would I want to manually patch and mess with a notoriously stable operating system. Answer. I don't.

Mike opinion. Buy the genuine article if you want to be impressed. Seriously for all the time you save it must be worth paying $200 dollars less to get a Mac Mini?! I mean come on! :-D

There are loads of apple realated stories to share at the moment. Here are a selection.

Mac Heist bundle has been re-released with 14 applications. However, they have dumped the App Zapper application which is the one I wanted the most. Therefore won't be buying all of the heist bundle any more!

Mobile Me the updated .mac account has been relaunched with focus on the iPhone, mac and windows compatability. Might be worth getting once I have purchased an iPhone.

Filemagnet will be an application that helps you ping your files to and from your iPhone. A current limitaion, though I don't know why apple would want to limit this type of file storage.

Macworld have produced an article on the new apple Mobile Me service. It is acutally sounding quite good so I might just subscribe to see what it is like. Will do it when I get the iPhone and see how useful it is. The constant sync with the phone and mac is particualarly appealing.

Another day another mac trojan. You can download this trojan and install it on your computer if you are missing the vunrabilities of windows. On the other hand, if you are like me and like a virus free platform, dont download it, don't install it, don't enter your admin username and password.

Apple Insider are reporting that the new OS for Mac's 'Snow Leopard' will have significant improvements on streamlining applications. The graph below shows that Mail and iCal will be reduced in size to 1/3 and 1/2 of their existing size in Leopard (or OS X 10.5). This would explain why iCal ran so very slowly on the old macs with little ram, it is good that the company is reducing its 'obese code' like this, that means that on a really modern computer you should be improving performance for the other programs that you actually want to run!

Apple have pulled themselves up from bottom of the table to 11th in the Green Companies list compiled quarterly by Greenpeace. A couple of years ago Apple were panned for their poor environmental record and toxic chemicals in their products and recycled percentage of old machines, I don't know how you would judge this though, a lot of old macs are still in use (odd as it seems). I find it ironic that lots of windows advocates were panning my mac purchasing process for its green credentials. However, I find that Microsoft are loitering in 17th and Dell is within a stones throw of Apple in the market place. How odd!

There are other news reports that it costs apple $175 to make an iPhone. I don't think they are considering the R&D costs here so I don't think the unit is particularly over priced. Especially when you consider the innovation in the market place.

Arstechnica is reporting that some mobile me accounts are actually up and working now for existing customers which is exciting news.

Arstechnica are also reporting a near 8% market share for Apple OS X. Not really significant yet but the outlook for Safari on Windows is much less. They are really not catching on in the cut throat windows market. Firefox and IE are really very strong and new browsers do not get going very quickly. It is interesting that Safari 4 (only available on the new OS X 'Snow Leopard' has a 0.01% share which is very strange! The OS is not out yet so there must be some crazy people running it from Torrent sites. That sounds unstable in the extreme if you ask me!
