Solution Base have a great article on how to connect a Mac to Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003. Not too shabby, it makes the process of implementing hardware onto the network nice and easy. Weirdly Apple Source has the same article in a different format. Weird.

MacWorld are reporting that people signing up to Apple's new Mobile Me service have been demanding refunds after a buggy and intermittent service. I am really surprised by this one. I personally think that Mobile Me is a vastly superior service and the push functions to the iPhone are amazing. I update my address book and it is on the phone practically before I can blink! They could not convince me to pay for dot mac but I will be continuing with the Mobile Me if it continues to be so strong.

MacWorld are reporting that Psystar are being sued by Apple for Copyright Infringement on their Mac OS X software that is only supposed to be installed on their apple branded hardware. Obviously this is going to be an interesting battle. Psystar have claimed that Apple license agreement breaks the monopoly commission laws in the US. Personally I think they are committing theft. They are breaking a piece of software and then offering their own engineered updates to mirror the mac updates. Sounds like breaking copyright to me!

Apple are opening a new store in Liverpool and the first 1000 people through the door are going to get a free Apple T-Shirt. Cool! :-D

Apple yet to release the DNS Patch for the OS X and OS X Server based systems. To be fair this is the first major and worrying security issue I have come across on iMac's and thought it would be fair to share. The DNS problem can effect any computer, however, most have released an update fix already to protect their machines.

You can check your DNS settings here by clicking on the Check my DNS button. If you are at risk, you should contact your ISP immediately for further information.

Feral Interactive is bringing Sid Meier's Pirates to the Mac. I also found out you can download a demo of Tomb Raider The Anniversary for Mac which I am now doing. No harm in trying the game out before I buy. I was very disappointed with TRIII so was very wary about buying a new TR franchise game.

Apple have released the patch 2.0.1 for the 3g iPhone and the iTouch. This is supposed to fix general bugs, I suspect that one of those is the contacts and calendars starting slowly. They are slightly reticent on what other bugs have been fixed but as it is now just about 4 weeks after the launch there must have been quite a few (though I suspect they have been busy with mobile me issues).

I found an old mac in a cupboard at work today! I set it up in a quiet corner of our computing suite.
PowerMac 6100/66 running OS7.5.5 contained 67Mb of memory! It worked just fine, had MSOffice 93, a working copy of minitab stats programme and netscape browser too.
Just goes to show that MMU NEVER throw ANYTHING away.
It is quite cute in an antiquated way, and is probably more reliable than the crap PCs it now shares the computer lab with.
