He has had a few scares with Pancreatic Cancer and the like. It is good that he is still here!

O2 upgrade website for the iPhone does not support Safari. . . . doh! Apple users are obviously not going to be interested in an iPhone.

If you ever wanted to know how much the iPod has revolutionised music players then read this article where a thirteen year old boy swaps his iPod for an original Walkman. Some very funny comments from the gent!

Snow Leopard may be released on 28 August 2009 which is about 3-4 days earlier than their September 2009 release target. The link above takes you to some snow leopard wallpapers from Apple.

Apple Release Snow Leopard 10.6 the latest operating system that refines the 10.5 Leopard to only run on Intel Macs. I have pre-ordered my copy online for the princely sum of £25, not too shabby. It should have speed improvements on the old Mac as it is slimmer and trimmer and uses 64 bit processes.

Good luck with the Windows Vista / 7 upgrades people! :-D

Snow Leopard installed without any problems or errors in about 40 minutes. It was a smooth transition as always. The programmes are taking a couple of minutes on each launch to update the libraries and databases etc but otherwise it is quite slick. Apart from a speed boost and a couple of updated icons I can't really tell the difference.

Installation rating - 5S

Updated icons found:
Character Palette
Quick Time X (with new and updated video editing / uploading capabilities).

I missed the fact that there was an Apple event on Wednesday 9 September 2009. It was that darned Civilisation game on the phone that was preventing me from reading my RSS feeds. Doh! There were two announcements, the first iTunes 9 has been released with updated sync and sharing options. The second was iPhone software 3.1 update. Am just going online now to test it!

I have watched the online webcast of the event now and it appears that there are some pretty cool updates. The iTunes 9 brings LP's additional stuff back to the album buying experience. It has updated the genius system to bring Genius Mixes and better suggestions for new music.

Relating to the iPhone and iPod Touch there are better syncing abilities. You can arrange the app pages for the device and then sync with the device. The music, film and tv programmes have new sync options that allow you to specify which artists or films should always be on your device despite other settings. Very cool stuff - I am looking forward to playing with this some more.

I don't quite know how Genius Mixes work but I am hoping to sort this out soon!

Apple updates it Environmental policy and shows exactly how much CO2 the company generates with its extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, shipping, use and recycling. This goes way beyond what is expected from companies at the moment and I guess this is aiming at improving it's reputation with Greenpeace. I wonder if other manufacturer's will be able to release the same information so that we can have a comparison - after all, in isolation these figures are meaningless. I was impressed that my computer uses roughly the same energy per hour as a 60watt incandescent light bulb.

Can't really argue with that. I DO have lots of gadgety goods around, predominantly ipods in varying flavours as I've upgraded and the old one keeps going!

The All New iMac has been released. The improvements are in the size and resolution of the screen, the multi-touch mouse (like laptop technology), under the hood improvements to the graphics and RAM. Up to 16GB of RAM makes this machine a real workhorse for visual media, photographers, film-makers rejoice! The screen has a full colour viewing angle of 178 degree's, quality.

The one interesting point is how are you going to watch HD video withouth BluRay drive being built in? I personally think that Apple are on the way to developing a watch video 'on demand' service through iTunes. Once you have this combined with Apple TV (which could be seen as a protype) you will have an amazing service. No more boxes of DVD's, no more clutter just one iMac, Apple TV and a remote. Nice.

I would love one of these computers, however, I may have to just satisfy myself with a multi-touch mouse. At least it will remove the cleaning of the roller ball part of the Mightly Mouse.

My one critisim is the wireless keyboard. I personally like the number pad, but that is a quite small gripe. I wonder if the Apple store in Manchester has them in stock yet.

See the Apple store - 4gb RAM as standard! Impressive.
