MacWorld 2008
Hiya I thought I would collate some Mac rumours for the MacWorld conference and exposition between 14-18 January 2008.
1 Warner, Disney, Paramount, Fox and Lionsgate to join the iTunes download service rental thing. Article
2 New software being released. Mainly a massive upgrade to Leopard (interesting!) and the new Office 2008 being touted. It is the only upgrade by Mircosoft to their office software since 2004 and will finally make it a universal application to work on the intel machines. The beta rocks btw. . . .

Re: MacWorld 2008
The Macbook Air looks cool. I especially like the 64gb hard state drive (powersaving), the LED backlit screen (powersaving) and the amazing 5 hour battery life. Oh did I mention it fits in an A4 envelope!

They also have no optical drives at all but come with a programme that allows you to steal the cd drive of a home pc to run installation disks over the network. It uses the new (ish) 802.11n wireless network which is apparently sufficient to run install disks. Pretty frikin cool!

iPhone update using triangulation of wireless networks and their relative strength to simulate gps on the iphone version 1. New iPhone applications and an application developer kit (ie third party applications coming by the end of feb).

iTouch update to include mail, maps and weather and 2 other apps which are less interesting. This means iTouch is now an iPhone just without the cell part of the kit. Cool upgrade if you ask me. I would get one of these now!

Have you noticed that the solid state drive actually drives the cost of the MacBook Air upto £2k! Amazing cost if you ask me but the speed would be amazing.

Re: MacWorld 2008
That's making it even more tempting to me. The battery on my mp3 player is well on it's way out so I'd like to replace it. I could get a normal iPod, but the iTouch is almost too shiny to ignore!
I think I'll have to wait for my bonus after the New York holiday though!

The iTouch is too small! 16Gig! For movies AND music? I need MORE space.
If they release a 160gig touch, which I think is within the realms of possibility I'll want one BADLY!
Oh, and the itunes rental thing has cut blockbusters share price in half, as a former employee- thats another reason to love apple.

Re: MacWorld 2008
It will come. The iTouch and iPhone both use solid state drives so they are relatively expensive to produce in large capacities. The MacBook Air demonstrates that when you add the 64gb drive the cost goes up to £2k! Eventually they will come down and it will get huge sizes!

Re: MacWorld 2008
They actually released Time Capsule too which is pretty cool but even for a 'fan boy' it is rather expensive. Especially when you consider I have a wireless router (free with internet) and a new external hd on the way with 500gb storage for only £70!

Re: MacWorld 2008
A new SSD (solid state drive) is just about to be shipped at 256gb in size. . . that should start the whole price drop for devices like iTouch (or an increase in storage space) and the Mac Air. At the moment the Air can have a 64gb drive for a total cost of $2000 or 32gb in the iTouch.
The SSD's are fast and also more robust than the magnetic disk hard drive which is full of moving parts etc that can go wrong.

Re: MacWorld 2008
This is not really mac world related but I have just found a series of Pro Tips on the apple website. They are not all . . . well . . . complicated, however, they do have some useful tips in there! This is a good way of me remembering the web address when I get into work on Monday.
