Sweeney Todd is a cinematic musical of the Deamon Barber of fleet street. It is a very stylistic tale spun by the infamous Tim Burton. The film is dark, sinister and gloomy - i liked it! The cast acted well and managed to belt out some powerful tunes. The only downside was the quick humour of, for example, Chicargo or The Rocky Horror Show, was missing making the first half of the film a slow starter. In fact it was so slow that two couples actually walked out the cinema which I thought was a little bit harsh.

All in all a better than average film with a respectable .

Wikipedia has a bit of a history on the old Todd'mister. A fictional character who appeared in the penny dreadfuls apparently.

I have to say I agree with Mikes review.
I got a bit bored initially, but once the story warmed up I really liked it. Tim Burton has got STYLE- hardly a suprise after many of his other films. Its incredible to think that he did one of the most heartwarming films I've ever seen (Big Fish ).
The sick gags and OTT bloodletting were highlights for me. (The gruesome landings of people falling thru the trapdoor is one joke that just didn't get old!)
I think it messed with Beckys mind slightly, but she did enjoy it too.

I doubt it, as implied by my facial hair, I don't actually own a razor... It wouldn't be quite the same with her pink gillette venus

Oh, how those bodies fall. The sheer nonchalence of the way they were disposed of was great.

In terms of looks, most shots were very dark, but I'd expect nothing less from Tim Burton. Costumes were great. Bizarrely enough, I can't remember seeing Helen Bonham Carter with any other hair do. The seaside fantasy stuff provided an almost whimsical element of relief from the crazy dark stuff. Considering the leads aren't really singers, they did well.

I'll agree that the first third/half did drag a bit, but the rest of it flew by. A proper boys musical, what with all the gore. Overall, quality entertainment, so I'll have to agree with everyone:

I wanted to like this film more than I did; musicals aren't really my thing, unless they're on stage, or a bit more inspired (in my opinion) like Moulin Rouge. I found myself clock-watching: not a good sign.
