Had unfortunately passed away on Tuesday 4 March 2008. He is the founder and creator of Dungeons and Dragons and was still keenly involved in all the fan sites such as Dragonsfoot and Troll Lord Games. There are a couple of links to the forum news sites below Dragonsfoot and Troll Lord Games.

Sad news indeed. Whilst it's sometimes difficult to relate to someone you never knew personally, he's affected so many people through his gaming systems it's hard not to feel some sense of loss. A fitting quote from Gygax himself:

"I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else."

Its a shame he died, I'm always in awe of folks who come up with games etc- I've got a copy of D&D somewhere at home... never got around to playing it tho. It seemed quite complex and time consuming, interesting never the less!

He was a very heavy smoker and apparently had an inoperable aortic aneurism.

A list of things inspired by the Gygax. . . one of them was World of Warcraft. Not surprising really.
