The Orphanage is a physiological horror film about a woman who brings her family back to the orphanage where she was raised and attempts to open a home for children with learning difficulties. Once the family move in her son starts to have more and more disturbing fantasies that develop into a disturbing obsession.
This film is amazing. Literally amazing. I usually laugh off horror films but this one had the audience jumping with fright, you could cut the tension with a knife and nobody spoke (which is unusual!) The film is presented by Guillermo Del Torro, which to be honest I don't know why he is associated with the film except his is the famous Spanish director who brought us Pans Labyrinth. Stylish, skilled and scary as hell, it is a must see for 2008. I hope I have not built it up too much and it ends up being a disappointment.
