Exploration of New Forms of Materials is what I think the title of this exhibition is. I have been subscribing to this blog Plataforma Arquitectura for a while because the projects are very good but I just don't speak (or read) the language!

De Mont always did know how to spend the student's money quickly! To be fair though, their marketing has always been expensive, they were the first Uni to actively advertise on TV and at the cinema using an advert which apparently cost £500k!

Construction Begins on the worlds first ever commercial spaceport. Designed by Foster + Partners in coalation with URS Corporation it is a sinuous shape of a building that is effectively a glorified airport! That is how people are going to get into space for the most part, plane for most of the way, rocket for a bit longer followed by 30 seconds of weightlessness.

I wonder how many people are going to get ill from that experience?!

Up To 35 an international competition for Architects under the age of 35 have been launched (as of 29 June 2009) and I think it is open to every Architect under 35. I don't know if there is a fee but it looks like an interesting competiton.

BDP has been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize 2009 for their work on Liverpool One. It is the first masterplan ever to be nominated for the prestigious award and it will be interesting to see if we win!

The Stirling Prize will be broadcast live on Channel 4 on 17 October 2009. Please do not swear.

Did you do any work on that Liverpool masterplan? Either way, good news for the practice as a whole, top six is pretty good regardless of whether or not BDP win it.

The Prince's Traditional Village has darkened alleys that are encouraging vandalism and petty crime, the buildings are poorly designed and weathering badly. A traditional design unsuited for the modern world.

The Art of Guiness exhibition opens in London. It is a shame it was not Dublin, we could have sent Mr Hibbert or Mr Hibbert's Son to do a special investigative report.

Yes, it would have been rather fun to do. I have always like the artwork associated with Guinness. Still, there is enough stuff at the Storehouse on the 4th floor (I think) to occupy my parents whilst I take care of ''their'' 'free pint' tickets on my birthday. ;-)

Norman Foster is the European Space Agency's choice of Architect to design the first permanent lunar construction. If he got that job I would be sorely tempted to apply for a job on the project. I could not imagine anything more exciting (work related that is!). The only problem would probably be that hundreds of applicants would request the same honour!

Guardian top 10 Bookshops in the UK. The Barter Books in Alnwick was visited on our holiday! It is a very nice place to browse for books, however, it is slightly overwhelming due to the sheer volume of volumes!

Caruso St John complete the Nottingham Contemporary. One of my favourite architects manages to pull another blinder with this sublime building. The spaces they have created from this oddly shaped site are excellent.
