Wall-e

Post by Mike »

We went to see wall-e tonight. It is the tale of the only remaining robot in an earth wide clean up team of wall-e mobile crushing units. For 900 years he has been busy crushing the human rubbish into cubes and building it into giant mega structures. His fellow robots had failed and he scavenges spare parts from the failed units. He went a bit eccentric and started collecting rubbish that he thought was significant. His world was turned upside down with the arrival of Eva a plant reconnosance droid. The story following is a bit of a love story mixed with an adventure rescue!

All in all it was a good pixar film but not the best ever made. There were good references to sci-film and Space 2001! I would rate 4s

I quite liked it: quite a bit of satire in there, maybe too many cutesy moments in there near the start for my liking. Fairly well well paced. Nicely rendered as well. Certainly some sci-fi references in there, took me a while to click with the 2001 "eye" though... maybe not so surprising, seeing as I haven't seen it yet. I don't think the scary-high ratings on metacritic are justified, as it's basically another very good Pixar film:

I loved it! The silly slapstick humour at the start was spot-on, the 'eco-message' wasn't TOO battered in and I loved the way they managed to make me be empathetic towards hunks of metal and plastic. Still doesn't beat Toy Story and Finding Nemo as my favourite Pixar films, but it's very close!

Toy Story is an amazing film with so many layers it is untrue. Wall-e does not manage to match it but it is still a really good watch!
