Call centre madness

Post by Mike »

Barclaycard have this system where you have to ring their call centre to let them know your replacement cards have arrived okay. This is okay in principle, however, I tried to get through for a week always getting the 'I'm sorry we are currently experiencing a high volume of calls, you may find it more convenient to call back later'. Again okay in principle.

When I finally get through I find out that it is an automated service and it takes me through a couple of options and then let's me hang up! WTF who heard of a computer unable to handle a high volume of calls? I mean, honestly.

Heh, it does seem weird, but it's simply because they likely still have a limited number of inbound lines available at any one time. I'm guessing they're just too tight to pay for more inbound lines, which is understandable in the current climate.

It was just very frustraiting that it has cost my mobile bill about £2-3 just to confirm that a card has been received. Not really very good customer service (though I suspect they get some money back for the number).
