Should they stay or should they go?

Yes. What they did was ill conceived and cruel.

The baghead and the sycophant

Post by John Knight »

I am sure you all know the background. The worlds most annoying baghead and the world most sycophantic chat show host are in trouble over a prank call.

Brand has already quit and personally I am over the moon that Ponderland has been pulled because I can't stand the man. If I ever saw him on fire in the street I would gladly waste good diesel trying to put him out.

Ross is on suspension which I can't see lasting because if they didn't have ross they wouldn't have anybody to gently tongue the bottoms of hollywood A-listers on a friday night. Not to mention the ENORMOUS hole that his departure would leave in the BBC schedules. Film 2008, Friday night, Radio 2 saturday morning, Japanorama etc etc etc.

I think they are turning into fall men. I thought that the show was pre-recorded and someone decided to go ahead with the broadcast! I have not heard the clip so I cant really comment. I think it seems to be a little bit exessive from what I know at the moment.

Check out this BBC list of what happened. I now believe fully blown out of proportion. Freaks of nature. Who in their right mind complains about something 5 days after it has happened. If you were listening and did not like it you would have complained after the show. Look at the figures. Two people complain about the swearing (on a show that is prefaced with 'this contains strong language') but then nothing until it rises up the news agenda.

Its now up to 40k of complaints, 10% of its regular listener base?!

To top it all off Andy Sachs was not even aware of it when he listened the wednesday after - he obviously does not listen to his answer phone messages!

Obviously a SLOW news week!

Fair enough Mike, I agree it has been inflated...but they did leave obscene messages on someone's answer machine (something that could result in legal action) AND they thought they were being funny, which frankly I'm not overly convinced they were.

Wossy disappeared up his own backside sometime in the late '90s...his Friday night show is simply a case of 'look at me and my famous friends...no, actually just look at me!'. I like the Film 200x programmes, but am sure the Beeb could find someone as knowledgeable to take that over if he is forced or decides to leave.

I've never really been able to see the appeal of Brand...

So... it gets reported, then more people listen to the show on repeats or iPlayer due to the publicity, some no doubt with the sole intention of complaining. Nice.

Still, I'm not a huge fan of either of them, but Jonathan Ross did make a car journey to my Grandma's much more bearable with his inane waffle on in the background.

I know what you are saying Al but punishment to fit the crime and all that. An apology was made from BBC, JR and RB which is right. They acknowledged that they were in the wrong. If the victim decided that this was not sufficient then he could have reported it to the police and let them deal with it.

Why is the PM jumping in with two feet?! I mean come on, has he got nothing better to do?! :-0

If he'd meddling in the BBC's affairs, then he's not likely to be meddling with the economy as much. I say let him concentrate fully on the BBC!

Andrew Sachs has now thanked Brand and Ross for boosting his career. I wonder if Ross & Brand should sue him now for all of the lost pay over the whole rediculous affair.
