I can report from the games geeks at the lab- CoD: Modern Warfare on Xbox is possibly the best game EVER! Certain members of staff (naming no names) "worked from home" for 3days after release... That and Halo make the xbox alone make xbox worth having! (and there are lots of other great games for it.)- I'm getting perilously close to the Wii, Xbox, PS3 debate again.

We've got Wii Tennis, Tiger 10, CoD to try over the next few days- will keep you posted.

F1 2009 Wii is here, it was a gift at Christmas (total surprise honest). I have played the game twice now. Once as a beginner in a Quick Race and Once as the start of the 2009 championship. The first play was disastrous. I don't know if it was because I was still hung over from Christmas day or what but the best position I managed was 17th! That was a fluke to be honest, and considering three cars crashed out not much better than my 20th position in all other races. The 19th against Joe does not count as a success either. Needless to say the game is difficult and exacting.

The second play was much more impressive. On beginner again I managed to have about 20 minutes of a practice session in Melbourne (out of a possible 2 hours - how hard core would you have to be to use the full 2 hours?!), 20 minutes of Qualifying and a 3 lap race. The fastest time I managed was during the Qualifying session where I managed to pull in a fluke 1:34.904. That happened to be 3 seconds faster than the next leading competitor but meh, it as a fluke.

During the race I fared less well in terms of timings (1:38.544 was the best) but still managed to stay out of trouble for long enough to come first.

First impressions are it is a hard game in terms of controls and also the time required to do it well. It is almost impossible to pick up and just play for 20 minutes or so because it would not be a good idea to do a practice session one day, the qualifying the next and the race on day 3.

On the plus side I love it and will look forward to trying to get up early on weekends to play a race at a time. I guess it will take about 17 days to do a full championship!

5s

Wii Sports Resort (with Wii Motion Plus) was another Christmas pressie. The game expands on the famous and playable Wii Sports (bundled with the console). The first impression are favourable. I don't know if it will be as fun as the original, I think I will need to have a few people to play against to get the full enjoyment. I have tried the Canoeing (not sure about this one), Archery (loved it!), Frizbie (not too shabby) and the Table Tennis (like Wii Sports Tennis but more annoying).

First impression 4s, further reviews may follow if I get chance to play more of the games. ;-)

Record lap time in Melbourne is 1:24.125. I am over 10 seconds slower than race speed!

That's because I can't stay on the track long enough to write a proper review...other than: "Vroom...:expletive:...corner...grass...wall...:expletive:!

My bro didn't even get my present out of the cellophane wrapper when I was there (spoilsport), however he has sent through a review of sorts via text earlier...Got killed in training mission twice. Then died on first real mission 10 seconds in. Good gory fun though!

I got PES 2010 for Chrimbo, but can't play until tomorrow afternoon when I return (albeit fleetingly) to Manc where my WII is (too much trouble to unhook the cabling to bring it down here for less than a week!).

CoD: Modern Warfare 4s
Awesome war game. Immersive. Hard! (One star off for brevity- Although I AM doing it again to improve my scores etc).

Wii Sports Resort 4s
WiiSports... with additions. Hit and miss. (Some games are FIENDISHLY addictive... others seem like filler).
(BTW- New Basketball 3 point high score 27.)

TigerWoods 10 (with motion+) 5s
GET IN THE HOLE! ;-) Realistic.

I love the Archery in Wii Sports Resort, and the dueling - although dueling above 1000 points is fiendishly difficult and below 1000 points is rediculously easy. Wierd.

More Wii Sports Resport action on Saturday for Lizzies impromptu get together for her birthday. The favourites were

Dueling - 5S
Archery - 5S (although Tony has irritated me by beating my high score of 107 on Beginner with an impressive 112. I can get perfect 60 out of 60 for the first 2 rounds but then fade on the 3rd and 4th!)
Cycling - 4S (don't quite know why you have to go from 30th to first is beyond me)
Basketball - 4S (I personally rate this one about 2S but everyone else enjoyed it. Thanks to mr_e's tutorials I have managed to get my high score of 6 up to 14. Still very poor).
Skydiving - 4S (haha Tony - I have reclaimed the top spot!)
Bowling - 4S Very similar to Wii Sports, we played the 100 pin game predominantly very good fun.

:-D

Looking at Joseph's reaction to the basketball, I'm guessing he'd rate it even lower. I'm glad I could be of service in giving you a score to aspire to in at least one area, seeing as I got convincingly done over in all the other ones.

Monaco - Aaaaaaaggggghhhhh. What a frustrating track, no margin for error at all around the whole circuit. Managed by the skin of my teeth to win on Easy. Barely. Usually on easy I can manage a 15 second lead over 3 laps. On Monaco it was at about 2.4s.
