For me, there are ways of approaching this ''problem'' and this wasn't one of them.

Ban them in school and you are asking for criticism because it is for a good cause and you will be in the minority.

Ban them in lessons - killjoy to a point but fair enough because then you can give certain reasons that do not sound stupid and you can tell students a week in advance so they don't set up ''funny for money'' sponsorship schemes like wearing them all day and then complaining that it hurts (the first one fine, the second one Ok but after you are told for the fiftieth time in one day by 11am you are irritated beyond your breaking point). This then allows everyone to wear them in their own time or as they are walking to and from lessons and they don't actually feel hard done by.
