Right. Rant time about statistics again and the clever questions asked by the ARB to support their argument. At the moment the ARB (Architects Registration Board) and the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) are locking horns over who should regulate the Profession. The RIBA want to curtail the ARB to just regulation and procescutions and the ARB wants to take over the world.
The question the ARB posed was
Do you support the regulation of the Architectural Profession?
The answer was overwhelming at 90% in favour of the regulation of the Profession and the protection of the title 'Architect'.
This statistic was then used in the AJ (Architects Journal) by the ARB as being proof that the Profession support the ARB and wants it to continue. However, this question cunningly sidesteps the actual argument taking place between the ARB and RIBA.
If the question had been
Do you think the ARB regulates the profession well and should have further powers?
Then I am sure you would not have had such a majority. Politicians!
Statisticians!
