Encounter with an Octopus

Post by johnriley1uk »

How's that for a title?

We bought a tin of Octopus pieces - I find it hard to resist odd looking food. Got to try everything...

Would you believe it, but in terms of texture and taste it's pretty much like....chicken. Only the tentacle shape gives it away, plus the slightest aroma of fish.

Now what can I try next?

A frog... but you may have to go to France or Cambodia (for a whole one like I did). Funnily enough, it also tastes slightly like chicken but the bones got in the way. The legs aren't as thick as you think. Still, it was lovely and served with some roasted cashew nuts. Gorgeous.

My Granddad was head chef at the head offices of a large multinational manufacturing company back in the sixties and seventies up in the Lake District (I have the signed menu from a meal for Donald Cambell shortly before he died in the Bluebird crash!) and he used to get all manner of weird stuff bought back to him by the travelling reps. Apparently chocolate covered ants are somewhat of a delicacy in Saudi Arabia, so you could try solving any ant problems in the area!

Crocodile tastes like chicken, as does snake...not really worth bothering with to be honest!

Must've been a different variety! Mine was a Floridian Croc...

Try Hákarl. It's a traditional Icelandic food, so it must taste great.
