Snow Watch

Post by Mike »

Newsflash. It is snowing in Stockport, it is probably not as impressive as in the Peak District but still pretty amazing. I think I will try and get to Tatton / Dunham Massey over the weekend if it sticks. Must dress the Millie up nice and warm though.

Is it snowing near you?

Edinburgh:
It started snowing around 2200 on wednesday night- I was walking back from the pub. ;-)
Snowed more or less constantly yesterday, but didn't REALLY start to stick till 2100, when the temperature dropped noticeably. Woke up this morning to a 1inch layer everywhere, the roads (especially the little residential streets) are pretty dicey- even more so on a little road bike with slick tyres!
We're off to Cannock this afternoon, so I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing what the conditions are like in both the Southern Uplands and also over Shap.
Just so long as we can get back to Scotland on Monday, I'll be happy.

Snowed here yesterday evening and this morning. Unfortunately it didn't stick enough but some did - enough for snow ball fights! The Darwin area had considerably more as I went ice-skating today :-D

It's just after one o'clock, it's snowing outside and my hands are almost too cold to type. May be time to turn the central heating on. I may also have to admit that it's now scarf weather.

I needed some neices or nephews to build snowmen with. There was lots of it and impressively large snowmen in Edgely Park!

Who needs nieces or nephews, just go for it! That said, it may look a bit... unusual in a public park building one on your own.

John, I'm liking the snowman's snazzy gold scarf-ribbon!

Shap was shut yesterday evening, so Good Luck!

West Didsbury is an ice rink...even Burton Road has not been gritted! It was slush when I got home last night at 18:00 and was frozen slush this morning...good fun!

It looks quite bright up in Notlob, but we'll see how the rest of the day goes!

If the roads in Shap are potentially shut, looks like I'll be checking the train updates really carefully before I head back. Don't want to be stuck up on those moors. Think of the movie Wrong Turn with a little League of Gentlemen thrown in.

you'll all be pleased to hear that we're safely back on the proper side of the border now...
NOT the most enjoyable drive I've ever done, the M6 had a lane closed from just south of tebay all the way up to gretna- it was being used as somewhere to pile all the snow plowed off the other lanes. We couldn't safely break 55mph (although many were trying) and at times you could easily feel the car spinning its wheels or floating on ice into the other lanes... not good! :-0 :-0

The A-roads thru the borders were absolutely fine tho, which was a relief. Especially as the clutch on our car seems to be about to give up- I couldn't reliably change gear for most of the journey... got it into 4th and nursed it from the M74 to Edinburgh whilst trying to avoid changing! Interesting experience! The car goes in for repair tomorrow.

Atleast we don't have to go ANYWHERE until after new year now! YAY!
We had a great time in Cannock. Lots of snow there too. Up here, there isn't much more snow than when we left, its just been compacted and frozen again, so EVERYWHERE is treacherous underfoot/wheel... biking to work from the garage WILL be fun tomorrow, could be time to bring out the big mountain bike instead of my cool sprinty road bike.

Well it snowed pretty much all day in Bolton until about 15:00, which nicely co-incided with our network being utterly shafted. No email, no phones, no files, no internet...can mean only one thing...SNOWBALL FIGHT!

Sadly it came back on otherwise I think all-out inter departmental war would've ensued!

I found out that I could have had someone to play in the snow with, if only I had thought to ring my neighbours! Doh!

Now the snow looks like it is over and will just turn to lethal ice now. You can't make ice men. . . .

True, and you're not one of the X-Men because that honour goes to Bobby Drake.
