The rest of the household made some snazzy snowmen, but alas I have no photos... yet. Doesn't look like it's melting much, but not being replenished at the moment either. It is still, however, bloody freezing thanks to the chill arctic wind that arrived today.

Mike, I saw the third photo first last time I checked, and totally didn't recognise you. Doh. Snow tortoise rocks!

Cheery thought of the day...according to the weather forecast, we'll hit a high of 0 degrees today...joy!

Road conditions not too bad, everyone seems to be driving sensibly but there were a load of breakdowns on the hard shoulder of the M60/M61.

Its not cracked 0'C here since you were here Al, between -6 & -10 at night. Intermittent snow showers, but the roads remain the same- slushy edges and clear in the middle.
I WISH I'd had a day off at some point, when its not snowing its wonderfully crisp and bright. We've got that wonderful golden winter light going on... wanna take photos!
So long as you bundle up warm its an amazing time to be in Edinburgh.

Saw -13on the dash on the way to work this morning. Roads were kinda intresting but nothing could have prepared me for the horrors of Birchwood. It was like an ice rally stage. anyway check out this ABSOLUTELY AWESOME picture courtesy of NASA.

It is now -10.5C in Tyldesley. Strangely it doesn't feel that cold, so I guess really cold temperatures can be dangerously deceptive.

The areas surrounding Manchester seem to have it worse temperature-wise. If it's sunny with no wind then those -10.5C temperatures may well not feel that cold: hopefully there's some decent photography to be had but not sure if you'll be able to make it far enough out of the house to get some decent shots at the moment!

That aerial shot is ace. Manchester and Birmingham sprawling away there as well.

In nearby Leigh it is the same and you're right, it doesn't feel cold but then again the heating has been on for most of the day. I'm dreading my gas bill....

Its officially chilly here in Edinburgh today. Another light dusting of snow on the bike when I got to it this morning... and then my beard froze on the way to work. Yes, you read that right. MY BEARD FROZE!! It was due to my breath condensing into my beard (and on my glasses) and then freezing solid. I looked like an old school polar explorer when I got to the lab today (apart from the shorts obviously).
Todays predicted Max temperature... -5'C. NICE.

Heating on for 7 and a half hours last night...living room was still like a freezer when I went to bed! Luckily the bedroom is smaller and was warm. I may move the TV and Wii tonight in there!

I got up at 6 this morning to see if the predicted snow had caused any massive problems requiring extra time to get to work and was presented with...no new snow at all...grrr!

Alternatively you could use the Wii Sports boxing to really work up some energy and warmth? ;-)

Virtually all the snow has now turned into ice mainly due to it being compacted so much. It took me and my dad over an hour to clear his drive :-0 and it was damn hard work.

More snow is expected on Sunday - from what I have heard reports range from light sprinkling all day to hard downpour at night. They're just rumours I reckon but the weatherman has said it will snow over the weekend.

I went into work today - how I didn't fall over I will never know because I was like Bambi on ice going down the hill. The tractor brought in to move the ice found it tough going and the caretaker looked like he had serious c.b.f.a. as he was trying to instruct the council team into how to move the snow efficiently.

Don't do it, Al! You may risk hypothermia and DEATH!! Much better to stay still and just have stuff amputated.

Same as Andy's experience for me - the snow is compacting to ice in a lot of places. Most of the trudge in to work was okay, although some of the local-stopping trains were cancelled on the way back which was a little disconcerting. At least it wasn't quite this bad.
