Red Dead Redemption

Post by Mike »

Red Dead Redemption by the famous Rock Star Games has been released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. If I ever felt the urge to go and buy one of these powerful consoles it is now. The game looks amazing - imagine GTA combined with a Western and you would not be far wrong.

The reviews have been amazing - MetaCritic gets the game a whopping 95!

Anyone lucky enough to have played this one?

I wonder if Lizzie would go for me buying an Xbox 360? After all you can get them from about £140 which is much better than the PS3!

Bargin purchase of the weekend was a Xbox 360 with Red Dead for £145 second hand. I was a bit grossed out by the sweaty controller but I have now baby wiped it to death and the caked sweat has now been removed.

I don't think I am doing particularly well on this game, I accidentally stole a cart and horse - he was passing when I was trying to mount my horse. I also managed to run down a damsel in distress (although that may have been an ambush to be honest).

An excellent game 5s, well done rockstar games for making this a brilliant adaption.

My not-so-bargain purchase last week was a PS3 with Red-Dead Redemption (birthday present to myself).

I have to agree that it is superb even the moments where you're not rounding up bad guys or helping out around the ranch and are just stomping around the plains are fantastic.

I have to agree with you though Mike, I don't think I've fully grasped the game yet. So far I've run over two damsels in distress, stolen cash from the shopkeeper (it said open container...so I did!) and promptly got shot dead, and best of all shot the kid I was supposed to be rescuing! (It was dark is my excuse!).

Even so, 5s at the moment from me!

Oh the irony! I was thinking of getting the PS3 but knew more people with Xboxs (and it was cheaper) so I went with that. If only we had co-ordinated then we could have rounded up an online multiplayer game. I guess it won't be cross platform compatable. At least you had a good excuse of the purchase, mine was 'its Saturday!'

I am currently trying to get the bandit in the hills, I need to find another approach, the up hill method is not working out too well for me. Ie no hiding places. I think that creaping up on them and taking the legs out of the leader is the best choice. One advantage of Lizzie playing netball tonight is I get another hour on the console! Yippee! :-D

"It's Saturday" is a damn fine excuse!

I seem to have been doing more of the Sheriff missions than the range ones, consequently this means I can't use the lasso yet as apparently the ranch owner teaches you. I did one of the night patrol missions and was told to break up a fight but capture the guys...apparently shooting them in the legs doesn't qualify for 'capture'!

I've also nearly lost all my earning on Texas Hold'em poker at the saloon...oops!

I spent all my hard earned cash buying a shack on a dusty plain on the advice of a bloke sitting on the side of the road with a stick. Not the brighest, I think I would have preferred to shoot the geezer in hindsight.

This game gets better and better, I like the little touches like the bandits firing off a final shot as they are falling to the ground dead and the staggering when shot in the leg. However, I have still not got the hang of the sudden events.

A sudden event is when you are riding along the road and a blue blip appears on the map. It usually signifies someone to help and most times by the time I have figured it out the challenge is over. Yesterday it was a couple of escaped convicts, I managed to shoot 1 but the other escaped - epic fail. This is the biggest difference compared with GTA. In GTA you could walk along all day without anything un-toward happening to you, it only really responded when you did something.

Maybe I will get some more time to play this week but not until Thursday or Sunday which is a shame.

About 24% complete now. I wish I could get more duels going, I want to disarm and shoot the hat off a cowboy soon, usually I just accidentally kill them!
