World of Warcraft

Post by Mike »

Hiya everyone.

This is a online subscription game. I know it has been about for a while but I have never bought it due to the subscription requirement. Should I bite the bullet and try this out????

Let me know what you think.

Come play Eve Online instead: you can train skills whilst offline, which is ideal for busy people such as ourselves. I'm on the free trial at the moment. At the end of the day, it's more social than single player gaming, so it can't be all bad. The subscription fees aren't that much, after all. Sort of...

I can send the free trial key to you, seeing as I bought a copy of it really cheaply on ebay, which gets me 30 days without obligation to subscribe. You'd only get 14, though.

I'd recommend looking at http://www.eve-online.com, and downloading the client (about 600mb) if you like what you see. It is scarily complex, has a steep learning curve, and is full of player politics. Full subscription is about 14.95 euros a month.

Eu14.95 is a rather steep cost to consider. I suppose it is aproximately ?9.99 which means they are getting the cost of a new game every three months! I will try the 14 day trial and see what I think.

WoW works out at ?8.99 a month or so. Let me know when you've finished downloading the client if you still want to try that free trial.

I now have spent 1.49 on this game for a 14 day trial. I will be loading it up on one of my long weekend holidays (first being on the 24 November) and trying it out.

I still fundamentally think I will not use this game all the time because I resent paying for a game (now ?9.99 on play.com) and having to pay ?10 per month to keep playing it! It makes me so mad to think of it.

Think of the constantly evolving world! Think of the comradeship! Join a mighty guild! Service guarantees citizenship!

I try and avoid games where possible, purely because I know they are so not good for me (I should be doing more constructive things). Also, paying a subscription fee pressures you into playing more, even more so if you join a guild, where there's pressure from other players, implicit or otherwise, involved as well.

You could just spend the whole fourteen days harrassing other players. Priceless, as they say in those ads.

Yo

I have tried this game for a couple of nights. It seems okay. I would not say that all 6 million players they quote actually play the game any more but that is the problem with statistics!

The start has been very boring. With quests like - Go kill a young boar, now go kill a big boar. There was one good quest so far where you had to rescue a poisoned man. Quite fun and did not require any killing at all.

The groups thing is funny. My group were a bunch of nitwits. The fighter would let the creatures attack my "long range battletank" ranger and come in after so he was not targeted. I ditched his sorry ass pretty quick after he said he could not find the poisoned man.

Will play for the next 14 days but am not overly impressed thus far. It is no better than Baulders Gate 2.

so sorry to hear that you didnt like warcraft all that much mike, you non believer. my game world is aggamagan but i doubt that has much need now, i personally get my ?8.99 worth of gameplay although i can see peoples point of buying a game then having to pay to play it, there is always the fact though that blizzard are constantly improving and expanding the game itself hence the extra large patch! oh please can you send me my password i seem to have forgot thats why im posting under hazel. ty rob 8)

WoW: The Wrath of the Lich King is due out soon and beta testers are waxing lyrical about it. I also heard that the subscriptions bring is near $1 billion dollars per year. That is a very impressive revenue stream. I never really liked it that much but I know that other people love the game to bits. Oh well, I am sure that Rob will be pleased to get a new expansion pack with more levels, character classes and other goodies too!
