Light bricks that come on at night here

and in the paper there was a new eco brick been designed using ash from power stations. Stonger and lighter than normal bricks, it would be interesting to design a building of them.

That is actually an extremely cool idea and one that impresses me.

At ?20 a brick it is expensive but I would consider it if I had the money. If you had enough then they would look very cool indeed.

Could you imagine them in the walls all the way up a building. It would be a fantastic image. . . . :D Only problem would be that they are not really structural items so they would probably get crushed. :(

Sorry, I didn't make my consideration clear - I was meaning as lighting for a patio in the back garden instead of Solar lights. I thought they'd look pretty cool around the edges and also as little squares made up of four-bricks to contain potted plants. Great stuff if you had a big enough garden.... and wallet.

The garden path is what they are intended for but I am always tring to think of new ways to use stuff like that! :D

Glass blocks aren't structural, but people still use shedloads of those. Try to specify the solar bricks somewhere on your next project and see what happens. One major bonus point is that they could pick out entrances or steps etc, which is great from a disabled access and safety point of view.

Here's an idea for you Mike. If maybe they are not intended for usage as normal bricks, i.e. big structural building, perhaps they could be used on a smaller structural project such as a small outbuilding.

For example, either this summer or next I am going to be building a summer house (glorified shed really) in my back garden - depends on timescale. However, if I had the money and the space then I would consider building it out of these. At night, it would be generally just cool, and uber cool for parties. The reason I am suggesting this is because there would be no extra weight involved like plasterboard, flooring or load-bearing walls.

Sounds like a cool design brief if ever I heard one. . . . :D
