James Bond: Casino Royale

Post by Mike »

We went to see this film in a seriously packed cinema last night. It gave me a big crick in the neck as we were sat at the front part of the cinema. It was quite difficult to see the whole screen because of that and made it difficult to enjoy.

The bond film has really tried to go back to the gritty roots. I would say that it failed and the plot was incoherent. Saying that I would like to see it again eventually so I can view the whole properly! :D

I found the seating fine, I must have subconsciously found out how to sit close and not get a crinked neck. I think the cinema being so stupidly (yet predictably) busy may have contributed to our lack of enjoyment, as I had no time to get pick and mix.

I'm not sure who let the film down: Daniel Craig or the script-writer. There were a lot of critics going on about the character development, but it felt a little rushed in that sense. Then again, the film overall felt about fifteen minutes too long, and was suffering from some pacing problems near the end. And as Mike says, maybe a little bitty plot-wise.

Overall, I think it gets bonus points for Mr. Craig (oh, how I long to nuzzle against his chest in a non homo-erotic fashion) and having the Parkour-style chase scene, that was a stunner. It couldn't really fail to be: Sebastien Foucan is one of the two founders of the discipline, also known as free-running (the other founder, David Belle, is the guy on the BBC adverts). A couple of other scenes stand out too, so it does have its "!" moments. Negative points above.

Personally I found this film dull, dull, dull !!!

Too much soul searching, not enough action and way too long !! V dissappointing. Plus, the film was full of inconsistencies, and did not appear to explain major parts of the plot sufficiently so that the whole film felt a bit confused.

To top this all off - the beginning of the film has Bond driving a Ford Modeo - which is insulting really.

Half hour too long

It was a half hour too long with seeming continuity errors in the grand scheme of James Bond land to my mind. But the action scenes were ace and what can I say...when he was sitting in the shower in his tux getting all wet looking after the pretty lady, he looked PHIIITT!! 8)

Saw this again just before going to watch James Bond: The Quantum of Solace.

Downgraded to 2s for sheer boredom. Does not improve with age. Although the chair torture scene is quite funny, I loved the line "I have a scratch down there, do you mind?" followed by "Yes, yes, to the right, the RIGHT". Seeing Daniel Craig hoping around on a chair was funny too!
