Sue has upgraded her iPhone to OS4 but isn't happy as it didn't save her music. Part of the problem was using a new computer. You can synch on up to 5 computers, but what happens as time goes by, computers die and get changed and you get to computer 6?

It isn't possible to un-register a computer if it's already dead....

You should 'deauthorise' the music on an old computer before you get rid of it. You can get them manually reset if you use iTunes. Also you need to make sure that you restore from a backup rather than make a new iPhone when you upgrade.

Let's be honest this is a problem created by user error - so I guess that means mum is cross with you!

That's jumping to conclusions - she did this all by herself! A very capable computer-literate Mum she is!

Restore from a backup was done, but clearly failed. Sadly the old computer could not be de-authorised as it failed....no access to any of the hard drive was possible.

Still, not the end of the world. What was on once can be on again. I presume that if she synchs on her other PC then the music will be restored anyway?

You need to transfer her music to a computer that she uses to sync the phone, otherwise one sync will restore music and the next will actually delete it! You will be going round in circles!

I shall wait and see what the advantages of Sue's upgrade is first. The if I like what I see I shall upgrade. When it gets to version 4.01 perhaps and the bugs are ironed out!

I was thinking that the App store could really do with a wish list so you can track things you are interested in but can't afford right at this moment. I was thinking of adding Chaos Rings and iMovie to my imaginary list.

If you're running anything other than a 3GS or 4G iphone I'd stay away from iOS4.
I installed iOS4 on my 8gb 3g phone... it slowed down- now I have to wait for apps, my email went wrong and I had to delete my account and then reenter it, my data settings reset themselves and again had to be edited. Finally, the most annoying thing, my iphone capacity took a BIG hit! I've got a capacity of under 7gig now- I had to modify my autosyncing playlists to reflect the reduced capacity.
So, I've had all the bugs and none of the benefits- I COULD use the integrated inbox thing... except that I only have one email account! VERY few of the other mooted benefits apply to the 3g, so much so that I'm considering using my restore point to go back to iOS3 which was doing a fine job, was designed for my phone and will allow me to reclaim some of my lost capacity.

how are you finding your shiny i4? There are a couple floating round the labs here- I had a play, VERY nice!! I can't justify it unless mine dies.

Apple has been sued in USA for the signal problems with iPhone 4. To me this is very odd, you don't sue your car manufacturer for poor fuel efficiency so why your mobile phone company?! If they dislike the phone that much return it using their 28 day refund and buy another model! Simples.

The signal dropping affects all phones...a couple of guys in work have HTC devices and if you touch the aerial spot on those the signal frequency drops. Ok, so the placement (top of the phone) of the aerial probably makes for less of an issue when calling, but its an inherent problem in all phones.

Apple open letter regarding iPhone 4 signal issues. Apparently it is a software calculation error regarding how the phone calculates signal strength. It has been a mistake in the calculation since the original phone and an update will be issued shortly. We shall see how the press reacts.

6pm tonight is an Apple press call to deal with the antenna issues surrounding iPhone 4. Microsoft have also lambasted te phone as a 'Vista' of the iPhone range. Personally I don't think it is that much of a problem! It is the best performing phone I have ever owned and I am very happy! That said it will be very interesting to see if they offer a full recall and replacement.
