Apple iPhone

Rumours are starting to spread about an iPhone HD. The screen resolution is set to be doubled, video camera added to the front face and maybe HD quality too. It seems a bit far fetched in places but we will have to see. The images online are pretty obviously fakes. I am looking forward to June / July!

8 April 2010 is a sneak preview of the future for iPhone OS4. I wonder if a new phone will be announced at the same time. It is interesting that the iPad is released and then followed up straight away with another new annoncement. Quality smoke and mirrors there Apple!

Believe it or not, elsewhere some posters have been venting their ire on Apple, affording them the title devil incarnate that some reserve for Microsoft.

Apparently the source of their distaste is that Apple insist that only approved Apps can be used on the iPhone. Where phones are rendered capable of receiving other Apps they become open to attack, so I would have thought that Apple checking out new Apps was really a Good Idea. Apparently not in the eyes of everyone...

It is possible to give the feel of a native App by programming your website using HTML5. Personally I don't know how to do it but I believe it is possible.

Opera Mini has been released on the iphone. It is quite fast for browsing on the move but it does not look as nice as Safari. Can a few people test and report back their thoughts. First impressions are

1) Fast
2) Slightly ugly user interface
3) Nice text editing on the forum posts

I've had a go, but unfortunately it didn't render the forums I use very well. Overlapping text was the main problem. No advantage really over Safari, which seems adequate for iPhone.

The less well known browsers don't always work well with some sites, most of which seem to be designed using IE or Firefox. I use both those browsers and they seem to cover it. Safari for PC I didn't like - too "mutimedia" in its operation - all I want is a fast web browser!

Safari IS the fastest browser on a Windows PC.

Uh-oh. My iphone has broken. No apps will launch at all. I will have to rush home now and set onto a system restore. I hope that it has not lost my city in SimCity. The problem seemed to start with that app which is worrying.

It was a DRAM issue apparently. If it every happens to anyone else you need to delete and then re-install 1 app. This will reset the memory and all apps should launch properly. It won't generally effect the core apps like Mail, Safari etc.

Slow on the uptake but Gizmo apparently have found / bought a fourth generation iPhone. Interestingly there are a number of Apple branded components in the device and it is an open secret that Apple have lost a device (although they consider it to be stolen).

Photogallery showing what is more than likely to be the fourth generation iPhone. There is a letter from Apple requesting the device is returned immediately. That sort of gives the impression it is not a fake. I bet Steve Jobs is fuming.

GIZMODO are pretty lucky that prosecuting companies that review your products for handling stolen goods, or maybe theft by finding, is generally considered bad PR.

I can imagine the thought process: "We have what may be a stolen phone, so let's use it to profit a little and get a major exclusive". Smooth!

The owner of the Gizmodo website has had his computer equipment confiscated as part of an ongoing police investigation. I guess this means that he did not return the precious iPhone model.

Hmm, I had heard rumblings that Apple might be considering it as stolen property and not just innocently lost. Oops for Gizmodo, I hope it was worth the scoop!
