People are writing about upgrading to XP from Vista now. It seems like a shame that Microsoft have got is so wrong and are taking such knocks with their spanking new software.

I get the feeling it's going to be at least a couple of years before Vista is running as well as it should've been. Urgh. I'm definitely keeping hold of my XP disc, just so I can dual boot if Vista does turn out to be still messed up when I'm forced to upgrade. Or I could run Ubuntu/some version of Linux.

Here is a good reason to ensure that you are running the latest version of Internet Explorer and have windows Vista / XP totally up to date. The BBC are reporting on a virus that installs itself onto the Master Boot Record of your hard drive and can not be deleted whilst the computer is running, go figure how you would actually remove the little bugger then!

The last sentence of the whole article does say if you are fully up to date you should be okay. Well that and not visiting dodgy sites which are likely to download this type of information on to your machine.

No worries, it was not really any skin off my rosy nose is it! :-D I am glad that your computer did not try to dictate my network setting on the router - it has been known on friends networks (good old BT)

Microsoft Vista has been getting more of a bashing with the following articles from cNet. Here they all are
Vista Price Reduction
Vista sued over Vista Capable Machine labelling
More Vista Issues

I am starting to feel very sorry for Microsoft, yes they are a big corporation, yes they are the market leader and yes they don't really have amazing software. However people do seem to be using them as a cash cow at the moment, the EU, consumer groups etc they are being hauled up in court ever day.

People seem to have forgotten that they have really brought forward the PC market together and make computers WORK. They are being hauled over the coals unnecessarily here I think.

Depending on how long Vista SP1 takes to download and install over the weekend, I may be a big fan again or not!!

You are completely right though, though they do have their own self to blame for the way they are publicly viewed. If they'd been a little more media-savy and less megalomanic maybe they wouldn't be quite so abused!

Bill Gates has hinted that a version of Windows 7 will be brought to a test release within the next year. Although admittedly the technical journals are commenting that in previous years Microsoft release dates have been wildly optimistic. . .

Microsoft are scheduling a new release for 2010 for all you people on Vista, oh well.

On the plus point, we are now using Vista on our machines at work (brand new, speedy machines...:-D) and I've not had any major issues with it at all. In fact, I'm very, very happy.

Hopefully by 2010, I'll be sat on a beach somewhere with a team of underlings attending to all my needs so I won't have to worry about Vista or any new versions...that's the plan anyway! ;-)

Good luck with that one. When you are rich and famous will you please employ me for 2 hours a week to design your new houses at, lets say, £100k a year?
