Wired are reporting that Windows XP has a save the XP petition out there to try and make sure it does not disappear from the shelves and be replaced (by their eyes) as an inferior product. I am starting to think, GET OVER IT! For goodness sake, lets just accept that the new product is here and we will have to change what we are familiar with.

If we stuck with the same OS for ever what would we all realistically gain?!

For an OS, it's actually fairly old. They're going to withdraw tech support for it, but it'll still be getting the basic support for a while yet (until 2010?). As much as I like it, it's more of a comfort thing, and I could always use Linux or something if I felt really strongly about not wanting Vista.

I will be honest here, OS X 10.5 is actually less stable than Apple's previous operating system but the advances in the whole technology is such that I could not envision going back. It will improve with development and match the old OS very soon but have much better features.

MacWorld is reporting that Vista is less secure than Windows 2000. They reason that it is because more malware is available now but I prefer to think it is because so few people used Windows 2000! ;-)

Windows 2000 was a quality OS, aimed more at businesses and developers though which probably kept up-take down (as you suggested). That was the most bullet-proof version of Windows I've ever seen, never once saw a 'Blue Screen of Death' and this was while I was doing bucket-loads of Multimeeeedia stuff for uni!

The next thing they'll be saying that Windows ME is more secure than Vista...who on earth used that?

*ahem* I may well have used ME, as it came pretty much as standard at the time. Never had any problems as such with it: I'm pretty certain the reinstalls I deemed necessary were due to a slowly failing hard-disc. 2000 was actually comparatively pricey from what I can remember, so that likely kept non-business take-up down as well.

I had a couple of problems with some programs not supporting some Radeon cards properly. It was more to do with third party developers than the OS itself, I think... unless the OS really was that crap and I'm just deluding myself.

Buy Vista and download XP for free. They will stop at nothing to try and tempt people, the only thing is, the more they tighten their grip the more people will slip through their fingers (and be swept up by the light side of the force).

The Mojave Experiment makes for interesting viewing. The next generation of Windows is judged and found to be Vista in disguise. When people were not aware it was Vista, they responded very well indeed to the OS. You are hearing a lot of information on how well Vista is performing now that they have 'bedded it in'!

Windows Vista on a PS3? odd as it sounds they have managed to get it to work. The 25 minute boot time makes it practically worthless but meh! Good Hack.

Security on Vista (and potentially other software too!) may be totally shredded by new research that attacks the very basis of Vista's Architecture and will allow people to write what ever they want (including where-ever) to your computer and set permissions needed to keep it in place. You could say this is not Microsoft's fault or error, it is just a massive gap in the thinking of how the software was written.

There is a lot of coverage about security of computers at the moment isn't there?!
