Star Wars

Post by Mike »

We all know about Star Wars the 70's cult films were classics slaughtered in the 90's by an overconfident George Lucas.

Phantom Menace. I could not watch this borefest - 1S

Attack of the Clones. WE GET THE MESSAGE - Anakin is falling in Love, it is a bad idea and will end in tears. It was more like cut scenes in a game than an actual film. The eventual fight scene was barely worth the effort. 1S

Revenge of the Sith. This is without doubt the best of the new films. Still only manages to get 2S with poor dialogue, cheesy acting and passably good fight scenes.

Star Wars A New Hope. Good but not great, cheeky and fun 4S

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back. Definately the best in the series. 5S

Star Wars the return of the Jedi. Good well made film, interesting but not great. 4S

i've never really understood the fuss about any of these films. the original three were pretty good without exactly being brainstrainers, while the prequels were simply awful. who could possibly devote their life and energy to something so trivial as so many geeks do? george lucas has a lot to answer for; especially that flappy-eared monstrousity he put in the first film. good god he was irritating.

And the second film who also seemed to start a war - doppy fool was elected to act in the place of a senator who was going off to make sweet sweet teenage torture with Anakin. . .

I Feel the third film lost any credibilty in the final scene where Darth Vader was told he'd killed Padme and screamed,

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and the fact it was shit.

After watching the first one I vowed to act revenge on anyone who said that they even remotely liked Jar Jar Binks. Possibly one of the most annoying characters I have ever had the misfortune to have on my TV Set. 1S

Attack of the Clones was OK but didn't inspire me. I liked it because it was a return to the action but I didn't like it because it was a shit storyline. However, the Special Features section with 'what happened to R2D2' (or something like that) was sheer class and I loved it. R2 drinking and getting pissed was hilarious and possibly made the DVD worthwhile. Yoda fighting was also cool. 3S

This did not inspire me to watch the Revenge of the Sith because I couldn't bare it. I had basically worked out what would happen. I will one day. But I refuse to pay money to see it.

A New Hope is cool. 4S
Empire Strikes back ROCKS 5S
Return of the Jedi is a good end. 4S

I just hope Lucas doesn't do Episodes 7, 8 and 9 because that would be truly disatrous and depressing.

I agree with your point about people devoting their whole lives to it. Why?

I have just bought the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD because the VHS player has given up the ghost. I deliberately went for the title which had the digitally re-mastered theatre edition as a bonus feature.

I have just watched 'A New Hope' Star Wars IV extended edition to see what I thought (just in case it was better). I can confirm that it was nothing added of ANY use what so ever. The silly additions of things passing in the foreground was annoying (especially in the Moss Eisley where for some reason they decided to obscure the WHOLE screen with a textured walking dinosaur. The added scenes actually added up to 15 minutes of extras and took a 4S film down to a 3S bordering on 2S for sheer indulgence crap.

The most annoying additions were in Moss Eisley and in the final space shoot up against the death star. Thank goodness I have the original on disc 2. . . I will post reviews on the others when they have been watched. George Lucas shame on YOU.

Oh and I forgot to add. Peter Cushing who played Grand Moff Tarkin (admiral in charge of the Death Star) was also the Doctor in Dalek's Invasion of Earth 2150AD and featured in The New Avengers and Morecambe and Wise. I always liked his expressive face, though he does look pinched to the point of illness. In fact he looked a little like my Granddad. Well, almost. ;-)
